Guiding Families Through Life’s Transitions: Meet Jennifer Harlow

By James Zapico on August 12, 2025

Navigating the complexities of estate planning can be a daunting task, often fraught with emotional and legal hurdles. For families in the greater Cincinnati area, Jennifer Harlow of Harlow Law Office, LTD. offers a guiding hand, helping them transfer assets with “a lot less friction” and fostering family unity.

Jennifer Harlow - help families create clear, comprehensive plans that honor their wishes and prevent future disputes

Her main goal is to help families create clear, comprehensive plans that honor their wishes and prevent future disputes. “Most people’s goals for their family is to keep their family together, for their children to still speak to each other… not argue and fight over money,” she explains. “With a clear plan, we can help with that.”

A Holistic and Personal Approach

What truly sets Jennifer apart is her commitment to “complete estate planning.” She ensures that clients not only have a will or trust but also understand how to title their assets to avoid probate—a crucial step that is often overlooked. To provide clients with transparency and peace of mind, she operates on a flat-fee basis.

Jennifer’s practice goes beyond the legal documents; she acts as an informal counselor, addressing the underlying family dynamics and concerns. She describes her approach as holistic, focusing on a client’s overall goals. “It is generally not, ‘I want to make sure they got every single penny.’ It’s more they’re worried about… is this going to impact them in positive ways or negative ways? And how do I make it easy?” she says. By encouraging open conversations and clarifying intentions, she helps eliminate the ambiguity that can lead to conflict.

A Mission Born from Experience

Jennifer’s passion for her work is deeply rooted in personal experience. She witnessed firsthand the stress and heartache that a lack of planning can cause when her own mother-in-law fell gravely ill without any legal documents in place. Her husband, as the sole next of kin, faced immense challenges in making critical healthcare and end-of-life decisions. This difficult journey inspired Jennifer to dedicate her career to helping other families avoid similar situations.

“You don’t know what you don’t know at the end of the day,” she reflects. “And so if you don’t have those conversations, you can’t just expect them to know.”

A Dedicated Member of the Community

A licensed attorney for nearly two decades and in private practice since 2007, Jennifer has deep ties to the region. She grew up in Dayton and has lived in the Cincinnati area for the past 15 years. “It’s home,” she says.

When she’s not in the office, Jennifer is a busy mother and has been married for over 20 years. Her family life is full, involving everything from scouting—with children achieving or nearing the rank of Eagle Scout—to robotics. As a fun outlet, she also organizes get-togethers with a group of friends who share the unique experience of being married to engineers, enjoying activities like making stained glass and sharing funny family stories.

Her community involvement extends to over a decade of service on the Symmes Township Board of Zoning Appeals, a community-based board where she helps ensure development is consistent with the traditional character of the township. She also supports charitable causes, actively contributing to Pink Ribbon Good, a local breast cancer support organization, as well as the United Way and booster groups for scouting and robotics above and beyond the needs of her own children.

For Jennifer Harlow, the work is about empowering people. “My job is to give you the choices so that you can make the decisions that you need to make in a responsible way,” she states. By providing options and compassionate counsel, she ensures that local families are prepared for the future, preserving both their assets and their relationships.
