The investigation begins uncovering connections to the past, including a secret stretching back roughly a century. The detective works alongside a local police officer whose own family has a connection to a similar murder from years earlier.

As the pieces begin coming together, the characters discover that the similarities may be more than coincidence.

Family secrets and secrets belonging to the community itself become part of the mystery. West reaches deep into the area’s history, with the novel’s prologue taking readers back to 1860 before the modern investigation unfolds.

The story eventually brings readers to Boise as the mystery develops.

For West, that gradual discovery is an important part of the experience.

That connection to the outdoors carries into his hobbies. West enjoys fishing and other outdoor activities, along with wood burning.

He is also a husband and father of four.

While Confluence of Shadows explores the darker possibilities hidden within fictional communities, West’s everyday connection to Idaho is grounded in family, outdoor recreation, and an appreciation for the state’s landscape.

 

Confluence of Shadows May Be Just the Beginning

West initially didn’t plan for his debut novel to become a series. As the story developed, however, he began seeing possibilities beyond the first book.

He now envisions Confluence of Shadows as the beginning of a three-book series, with ideas for the second installment already starting to take shape.

That would give West an opportunity to continue developing the world and characters introduced in his debut while telling another suspenseful story rooted in Idaho.

He also hopes his storytelling could someday reach audiences beyond the page, with a film or limited-series adaptation among his long-term aspirations.
