In the bustling North Atlanta suburbs, where traffic cones and construction signs are as common as pine trees, small business owners are constantly juggling the demands of growth with the reality of limited resources. For many, the bookkeeping—the essential tracking of every dollar in and out—becomes a source of stress, confusion, and costly errors. Enter Kimberli Bruso, the tenacious and deeply personable founder of Bruso Bookkeeping, who decided to build her entire third career around one simple idea: clarity should be affordable, and understanding your numbers should empower you, not overwhelm you.

Kimberli’s journey to becoming a bookkeeper wasn’t a straight line. It was a deliberate choice born from observation, resilience, and a profound desire to help other business owners build something lasting without burning out in the process.

A Career Forged Through Insight

With a background that includes everything from climbing poles as a cable technician to mastering the art of hairdressing, Kimberli understands hard work and the toll it can take on the body and spirit. For three decades, she worked as a licensed hairdresser, and while she loved the creativity and connection, she noticed something profound during countless client consultations.

“I asked every new client what they did for a living,” she recalls. “And I began to notice a pattern—the accountants were consistently the happiest. They spoke about their careers with satisfaction, and their financial stability was evident. I realized I wanted that—not just for the income, but for the peace of mind.”

That sparked a journey that led her back to school, where she earned her MBA and became a candidate for the CPA exam. She gained invaluable experience working for mid-sized corporate accounting firms, where she handled everything from healthcare and real estate accounts to international corporations. But she also saw a gap—a lack of personal connection and transparent pricing that left many clients feeling overcharged and underserved.

The Birth of Bruso Bookkeeping

After a layoff in April 2025, Kimberli took a leap of faith. Driven by encouragement from her family and a firm belief that she could offer a better, more human-centered service, she launched Bruso Bookkeeping. The name is straightforward—like her approach—and reflects her commitment to simplicity and trust.

She specializes in cleanup work—untangling months or even years of mismanaged books where transactions are miscategorized, receipts are lost, and financial statements tell a confusing story. Using her expertise in QuickBooks and other platforms, she doesn’t just correct the numbers; she educates her clients along the way, ensuring they understand the “why” behind every adjustment.

“I believe in dumbing things down,” she says with a warm laugh. “If a client doesn’t understand their finances, how can they make smart decisions? My goal isn’t just to do the work—it’s to make sure they feel confident and in control.”

More Than Numbers—A Partner in Progress

What truly sets Kimberli apart is her pricing model. Instead of billing by the hour—a practice she saw lead to shocking invoices—she charges a flat monthly rate. This gives clients predictability and peace of mind, especially during months requiring heavier lifting. Her services include:

  • Monthly & quarterly bookkeeping
  • Bank & credit card reconciliations
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Payroll processing
  • Customized reporting

She’s also deeply invested in her community. Though she’s based in Kennesaw, she serves clients throughout Cobb County and beyond, offering both virtual and in-person support. She’s exploring partnerships with local CPAs and is passionate about offering discounts to veterans, moms launching businesses, and disabled entrepreneurs—reflecting her own values of fairness and support.

A Life of Creativity and Balance

When she’s not poring over spreadsheets, Kimberli is often in her woodshop—a converted 40-foot shipping container she outfitted herself. There, she builds furniture, restores antiques, and crafts handmade gifts for loved ones. She’s an avid crocheter, outdoors enthusiast, and lifelong learner whose curiosity fuels every part of her life.

That same energy fuels her business. She built her own website, teaches herself new software, and isn’t afraid of a challenge—whether it’s mastering a new accounting platform or hanging drywall.

Looking Ahead

As Bruso Bookkeeping grows, Kimberli looks forward to earning her CPA license and continuing to serve businesses with integrity, transparency, and a deeply personal touch. For her, success isn’t about scaling rapidly—it’s about forming lasting relationships and helping each client thrive.

“I’ve had many careers,” she reflects, “but this one lets me use my mind, my heart, and my hands. I finally feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.”
