For Andrew Michael Schenk, a licensed massage therapist and owner of Resilient Body Solutions in Surprise, Arizona, the mission to heal others is deeply personal. His journey from the challenges of the Marine Corps to the serene environment of a massage therapy room is one of resilience, empathy, and a profound understanding of pain.
Andrew’s path to becoming a massage therapist began after he was medically retired from the Marine Corps in 2020 due to injuries. Faced with a lifetime of pain, the advice he received was disheartening: “you’re just going to live in pain for the rest of your life. Here’s some pills and good luck”. Unwilling to accept this, Andrew sought his own path to healing and discovered the profound benefits of massage therapy.
“I started getting better,” Andrew shared. “And so I think I just understand pain because I lived with it for so long. So I know pain not just from reading a book, but from experiencing it and really wanting to help people how I was helped”. This firsthand experience is the bedrock of his practice and his motivation to help others who have been told there is no hope for a pain-free life.
The name of his business, Resilient Body Solutions, reflects this core belief. “I’m a huge believer that the body is very resilient and your body’s really good at taking care of itself,” he explained. “And sometimes you just need… a solution for your body to help heal itself”.
Andrew’s dedication to serving others, which defined his time in the Marines, continues to be a guiding principle in his civilian life. This commitment is powerfully demonstrated through a special policy he established at his practice. After losing his best friends in the service, Andrew was moved to support the mothers they left behind.
“My policy from the get-go is no gold star mothers have to pay for my services,” he stated. A Gold Star Mother is a mom who has lost a child in military service. “They get a free 60-minute service every single month… I think they’ve already paid”.
His service extends into the broader community as well. As a certified EMT, Andrew volunteers with organizations to provide first aid care to the homeless in surrounding cities. He is also a Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED instructor and puts on classes for the community, making no profit himself.
While Andrew specializes in a unique style of Swedish myofascial massage, his expertise encompasses a wide range of wellness disciplines. He is also a certified personal trainer, a running coach, and a nutritional coach, offering clients a comprehensive perspective on health. In the future, he hopes to open a larger facility that includes a small gym to offer corrective exercise and personal training programs alongside his massage services. For now, new clients can receive 25% off their first session.
A longtime Arizona resident, Andrew grew up in Peoria and now lives in Surprise. He loves the city’s ability to grow while still maintaining a small-town feel where people know each other.
When he’s not helping clients, Andrew is an avid trail runner, competing in races up to a marathon distance. He is a big Diamondbacks fan and enjoys taking his 12-year-old son to several games a year. Music is another shared passion; Andrew plays guitar, and his son plays guitar, bass, and drums.
For anyone struggling with pain, Andrew offers a powerful message of encouragement. “I’m someone who truly understands pain. I have every compassion for them. They’re not crazy. They’re not alone, and there is hope,” he says. “Just [don’t] give up just knowing that they can get better”.
