Ashlee and Cody Goudelock, owners of The Brit Bakehouse in Shreveport, Louisiana, are crafting a delicious blend of British and local flavors. This small bakery has quickly become a local favorite, offering unique treats with a British twist.
Ashlee, originally from Crewe, UK, met Cody while he was visiting England during his time in the US Army. After tasting Ashlee’s cooking, Cody instantly acquired a love for British baking and cuisines. Encouraged by her new husband, Ashlee began to share her cooking and baked goods with more friends and family. With Ashlee’s British roots and Cody’s passion for bringing a piece of that culture to Louisiana, they started a business and named it The Brit Bakehouse. It’s a perfect name that reflects their journey and vision. And their branding, featuring the British flag, celebrates Britain’s best bakery delights. This also service to entice those who are curious of British dishes, and to offer a reminder of home for the British immigrants who miss the food from home.
The Brit Bakehouse specializes in handcrafted British baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and sweets. Sourdough bread, their star offering, is meticulously prepared to ensure quality and taste. Popular menu items include:
Customer reviews highlight the exceptional quality and flavor of their offerings.
One fan raved about the jalapeño cheddar sourdough grilled cheese and fresh tomato soup, calling it “absolute 1000000/10.”
Another praised the cinnamon rolls and chocolate sourdough bread, emphasizing the freshness and delightful customer service.
The bakery also provides catering services for local events. Recently, they catered a Bingo Night. This event was held at The Bell which is a private party venue in downtown Shreveport. An upcoming catering event they have planned is for a youth football training camp showcasing their British meals.
The Brit Bakehouse caters to those who love sourdough bread and British-inspired baked goods. They are the only British bakery in the area, standing out with their use of all-natural ingredients and reasonably priced, healthy meals.
Whether it’s a classic sourdough loaf, comforting soups, or sweet treats, their offerings are crafted with care to satisfy their customers. They primarily serve the Shreveport and Bossier area, covering a 30-mile radius.
Ashlee’s passion for baking began in the UK, where her mother taught her to cook and bake. Her loved ones considered her soups the best go-to comfort food especially when feeling sick. Her sourdough bakery goods tasted fantastic. The confidence she received from her relatives and friends helped catapult her into entrepreneurship.
Cody’s military service in the US Army, including a deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom, played a role in shaping their journey. After moving back to the US, the couple chose Shreveport for its central location near relatives in Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi.
Their family of six is actively involved in the bakery. Cody, Ashlee, and their four children work together to make The Brit Bakehouse a true family-run business.
Since opening in April 2024, The Brit Bakehouse has grown steadily. Plans for expansion include potentially acquiring a food truck to bring their baked goods to more customers. The bakery also prioritizes using locally sourced ingredients, such as peppers and honey, which not only enhance their recipes but also support the community.
The Brit Bakehouse is committed to giving back. They support local children’s foster home programs and organizations like Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) by providing regular food donations. Their efforts reflect a dedication to making a positive impact on their community.
The Brit Bakehouse is more than a bakery—it’s a reflection of Ashlee and Cody’s love for their heritage and community. With its unique offerings, friendly service, and commitment to quality, this bakery has quickly become a cherished part of Shreveport.
