In Citrus Heights, California, just a short drive from Sacramento, Wild and Fly Fitness is quietly redefining what a fitness experience can feel like. At the heart of this movement is Wendy Fuentes, the passionate founder behind this boutique wellness studio.
Wild and Fly Fitness is not your typical gym. It’s a boutique fitness studio designed around the belief that true wellness begins with self-love. The studio’s name itself – “Wild and Fly” – is rooted in that philosophy, standing for “First Love Yourself.” That mission runs through every part of the experience: from the intimate class sizes to the range of classes tailored to individual needs, no matter your age or ability.
Wendy brings decades of personal experience in fitness and healing to her studio. After suffering an injury to her sciatic nerve and caring for her children through their own health recoveries, Wendy saw a gap in the local fitness and recovery space. “There weren’t enough resources or education around healing-focused fitness,” she explains. That insight inspired her to create Wild and Fly Fitness, a space that combines movement, recovery, and community.
One of the studio’s standout offerings is its bungee fitness program. With clients suspended from the ceiling in harnesses attached to bungee cords, it combines low-impact cardio with high-energy dance and plyometric movements. It’s not only fun but also musculoskeletal-friendly, making it accessible for those managing pain or seeking a gentle, joyful way to build strength and stamina. The bungee fitness class supports participants up to 300 lbs, while the rebound fitness class accommodates individuals up to 450 lbs, offering inclusive fitness solutions for a wide range of body types.
In fact, the studio has become a haven for many women who have undergone gastric bypass surgery. These clients are finding not only improved fitness but also support, accountability, and a sustainable path to a healthier lifestyle through the welcoming community and thoughtfully designed classes at Wild and Fly Fitness.
But the studio doesn’t stop there. Wendy has also developed a range of specialty classes. Pelvic health yoga, for example, supports both men and women with back pain, incontinence, post-surgery recovery, and general flexibility. Seniors benefit from the “Golden and Silver” fitness classes, which help improve balance, stability, and mobility. And families can enjoy infant and toddler yoga, along with youth dance programs that encourage development through movement.
“We focus on where you’re at today,” Wendy says. “And we walk with you on the journey to better health.”
Wild and Fly Fitness is intentionally intimate. Most classes range from 14 to 25 participants, ensuring that everyone receives personal attention and space to grow. All sessions are scheduled in advance, making it easy to plan ahead and guaranteeing your spot. Drop-ins are welcome by phone, keeping the experience as accessible as possible.
The studio’s community-first spirit is reflected in everything from the welcoming atmosphere to Wendy’s personal mission to increase inclusivity. Fluent in Spanish, she’s now working to add Spanish-only and bilingual classes. “We want everyone to feel welcome here, no matter their background or language,” she says.
With just four months since opening, Wild and Fly Fitness has already started attracting a steady following. Wendy currently leads a growing team of instructors and is actively expanding the staff to meet rising demand.
Wendy’s background as a former elementary teacher also fuels her drive to educate clients. She doesn’t just offer workouts – she provides knowledge, support, and resources. “If I don’t know the answer, I’ll find it,” she says. “We were always encouraged in my family to help others. That’s what I bring into the studio every day.”
Her vision for the future is simple: to grow slowly, meaningfully, and to continue supporting the community she loves through wellness and empowerment.
“This isn’t just about fitness,” she adds. “It’s about healing. It’s about loving yourself first.”
