With a passion for art and a heart for the community, Erykah has become a local biz hero, making a positive impact on the Milwaukee nail care scene.
“What makes me different is that I care deeply about the environment and our customers’ well-being,” Erykah explained. “Our vegan, eco-friendly press on nails are crafted with love, and we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint by investing in eco-conscious packaging.”
Beyond her business, Erykah is actively involved with local entrepreneurs and supporting the Blaze group, an organization empowering Black women entrepreneurs. Her dedication to making a difference is evident in both her personal and professional endeavors.
We sat down with Erykah for a quick interview to learn more about her journey as a nail care artist and entrepreneur.
Why do you do what you do?
“I was always passionate about nail art, but finding unique designs for press on nails was a real struggle. I saw an opportunity to save time for those who love to have beautiful nails without the hassle of salon visits. Plus, I wanted to shake up the industry by offering vegan, hand-painted nails that catered to the darker skin tones.”
How did you get into this profession?
“My journey began when I was working in the beauty industry, selling Mary Kay cosmetics. During a home party by a colleague, I stumbled upon a beauty starter kit and noticed that many products weren’t suitable for women with darker skin tones. This lack of representation motivated me to create a business that celebrates diversity and beauty for everyone.”
What’s the most unusual situation that ever happened to you on the job?
“At one of my first vending events, I realized that not everyone appreciated my nail designs as much as I did. It was a humbling experience to see how people interacted with my booth compared to others. This eye-opening moment helped me pivot my marketing campaigns to reach a broader audience with designs that resonated better.”
If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing press on nails, what would it be?
“Always do your research on the products you use. Some contain harmful chemicals that can have serious health implications. Choose products that prioritize your well-being and embrace eco-friendly options.”
