How an independent veterinary clinic is putting pets and their owners first.

A visit to the veterinarian can be an overwhelming experience for both pets and their owners, particularly when health concerns arise or unfamiliar procedures are involved. At Good Life Veterinary Care in Dublin, Ohio, Practice Manager Lizza DeChant and her team strive to make those experiences more positive through exceptional medicine, low-stress handling, open communication, and an individualized approach to each pet’s care.

As an independently owned clinic, Good Life Veterinary Care has the freedom to make decisions that reflect its values. Its approach combines thorough, research-driven medicine, client education, and an emphasis on building lasting relationships rather than simply moving patients through appointments.

With years of experience in the veterinary profession, Lizza has come to appreciate the importance of a supportive working environment and a team united by shared standards of care. At Good Life Veterinary Care, those qualities have helped shape a practice where medical expertise and personal attention remain closely connected.

Finding a Different Kind of Veterinary Practice

Having spent much of her life in the veterinary profession, Lizza has worked in a variety of clinical environments and developed a clear idea of what she valued in a workplace. When she was introduced to Dr. Laurel Beck, the owner of Good Life Veterinary Care, she knew it was the kind of practice she wanted to be part of. She was looking for an environment where her experience and ideas would be valued, where work-life balance was a priority, and where the owner genuinely cared about both the people and the animals in her care. Above all, she wanted to work somewhere that prioritized quality medicine over the number of patients seen.

In Dr. Beck, she found someone who shared those values and was committed to creating a supportive workplace where the team could take pride in the care they provided. Over the years, that commitment helped build a team that not only shared Dr. Beck’s high standards for veterinary medicine but also genuinely cared about one another.

That culture and commitment to one another became more important than ever when Dr. Beck was diagnosed with cancer this spring and needed to step away for medical leave. The clinic’s 17-member team of doctors, technicians, assistants, and client service staff took on new responsibilities, supported one another, and worked together to make sure patients and clients continued receiving the same high-quality veterinary medicine and compassionate care they had always known.

Their dedication has allowed Dr. Beck to focus on her recovery, knowing the practice is in good hands. The clinic’s standards haven’t changed, and neither has its approach to medicine. For Lizza and Dr. Beck, seeing the entire team step up, support one another, and remain committed to their patients has been an incredible source of pride and gratitude.

Making Veterinary Visits More Comfortable

Recognizing that veterinary visits can be stressful for animals, Good Life Veterinary Care places considerable emphasis on creating a calm and reassuring experience. Rather than pushing anxious pets through unfamiliar procedures, the team uses gentle handling techniques, a variety of treats, and gives patients time to adjust. Pre-visit medications are also encouraged when appropriate to help animals who experience significant anxiety.

Transparency and communication are equally important to this approach. Procedures such as blood draws and sample collection are performed in the examination room with owners present, allowing them to observe the process and better understand their pets’ care. By explaining procedures and addressing concerns, the team encourages owners to take an active role in decisions about their animals’ health.

The clinic also strives to create a welcoming environment, with a biscuit bar offering treats for both pets and their owners, an in-ground scale, pet-safe plants throughout the lobby and baby gates on the exam room doors. Even these smaller details reflect the team’s commitment to making veterinary visits a more positive experience for pets and their owners.

Combining Modern Medicine with Individual Attention

Since opening in 2018, Good Life Veterinary Care has provided veterinary services to pets and their owners across Dublin, Powell, Hilliard, Worthington, Columbus, and surrounding communities. Its services include routine wellness examinations, sick visits, vaccinations, surgery, ultrasound diagnostics, behavioral consultations, acupuncture, and therapeutic laser treatments.

The clinic’s medical team brings together professionals with different areas of expertise. Dr. Gabriela Fernández, who joined shortly before Dr. Beck’s medical leave, has particular interests in surgery, behavior, and dermatology. As the owner of a reactive dog herself, she understands the challenges faced by anxious or fearful animals and approaches them with patience and sensitivity. Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Fernández also offers veterinary appointments in Spanish.

Dr. Jackie Boyd contributes extensive clinical knowledge and a strong commitment to continuing education, frequently consulting specialists and researching complex cases to explore appropriate treatment options. She also brings expertise in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, complementing conventional treatments, particularly in pain management.

The team also welcomed back Dr. Karli Collins, who previously worked at the clinic as a veterinary assistant before attending veterinary school in Grenada. She returned as a veterinarian to support the practice during Dr. Beck’s extended absence, bringing valuable familiarity with its patients and working environment.

An equally important part of Good Life Veterinary Care is its dedicated support team, including wonderful client service coordinators who know clients and their pets by name and highly skilled veterinary assistants who help keep the hospital running smoothly while providing attentive, compassionate patient care. The clinic’s registered veterinary technicians bring an additional level of education, training, and clinical expertise, performing important aspects of patient care such as dental cleanings, surgical assisting, diagnostic testing, and client education. Together, these team members play an essential role in ensuring that every patient receives the thorough, thoughtful, and well-coordinated care that Good Life is known for.

Why Preventive Care Matters

Preventive medicine plays an essential role at Good Life Veterinary Care, where early detection and regular monitoring help protect animals’ long-term health. Because pets cannot communicate when something feels wrong, routine examinations and diagnostic testing can reveal underlying conditions before noticeable symptoms develop.

A recent case at the clinic demonstrated the importance of this approach. A dog scheduled for a routine dental cleaning underwent preoperative blood tests that revealed anemia. Further investigation led to the discovery of cancer, a condition that might otherwise have remained undetected. Regular blood work also provides a baseline of an animal’s normal health indicators, allowing veterinarians to identify significant changes when concerns arise later.

The clinic supports this preventive approach through wellness plans designed to make routine care more manageable. These plans help distribute the cost of vaccinations and blood work throughout the year and include unlimited examinations for 12 months. They can be particularly beneficial for animals with chronic conditions, such as allergies, that require frequent follow-up visits. Additional payment options, including Cherry financing and CareCredit, help families manage veterinary expenses without compromising the care their pets need.

Building Trust Through Personal Connections

Beyond providing quality medical care, Good Life Veterinary Care places considerable importance on the relationships it develops with pet owners. Every animal has different needs, and the team takes time to understand individual concerns, explain treatment options, and ensure that clients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visits.

This commitment extends beyond individual appointments, helping establish lasting relationships with pet owners who return to the clinic for their pets’ ongoing care. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, the team works with owners to determine appropriate treatment and ongoing care based on each animal’s circumstances.

That trust is reflected in the clinic’s 4.9-star Google rating, highlighting the positive experiences of pet owners who value its commitment to attentive, high-quality veterinary care. Good Life Veterinary Care has also earned BusinessRate’s Best of 2026 recognition and received high rankings on Nextdoor multiple times, further reflecting its strong reputation within the local community.

Growing While Preserving What Makes the Clinic Special

Good Life Veterinary Care continues to establish itself in a competitive local veterinary market. As more practices become part of larger corporate networks, its independent ownership allows the team to retain greater control over medical decisions and the experience it provides to patients and clients.

For Lizza and Dr. Beck, growth isn’t simply about seeing more patients or adding more doctors. It’s about creating a practice where excellent medicine, a supportive workplace, and a positive client experience can all exist together. Together they hope to continue developing the team, adding more doctors, improving the way the hospital operates, and finding new ways to connect with the community, all while preserving the independent, personal approach that makes Good Life special.

Helping Pets Live Their Good Life

The name Good Life Veterinary Care reflects the belief that every pet deserves a good, long, healthy life and a strong bond with the people who care for them. Since opening, the clinic has worked toward that goal through high-quality medicine, individualized treatment, and a commitment to meeting each animal’s unique needs.

As Good Life Veterinary Care looks toward the future, the dedication of the clinic’s veterinarians and the collaborative spirit of the entire team remain essential to its continued growth. Together, they strive to help pets enjoy healthier lives while giving their owners greater peace of mind.

Exceptional medicine. Gentle, thoughtful care.
