Washington DC – Ali Register and his company I Lift Academy offer an in-person personal training experience beyond simply working out. Ali covers everything from nutrition to mindset because those are the crucial aspects often overlooked by traditional personal training. And when it comes to online training, he still prioritizes diving deep into the mindset, especially for men seeking healing. Whether it’s face-to-face or virtual, Ali’s goal is to provide a transformative journey that leaves you feeling empowered and inspired.
Men face a significant challenge in achieving their desired workout results. That challenge is trust. They often hesitate to trust a trainer, a workout shake or anything else on the other side. It’s not easy for trainers to establish trust either. Trainers might appear as authoritative figures with perfect bodies and postures, but let’s be real: why would you trust that? Right?
And that’s precisely why clients often give surface-level answers like “I overeat cake” when, in reality, there’s so much more going on. They’re overworked, stressed, constantly argue with their significant other and sometimes even hate coming home. They might be struggling with deep-rooted issues that have affected their appetite and overall well-being. Who would openly share that with someone they don’t trust?
But hey, here’s a little secret: Ali has been through it all. Loss, depression, alcoholism, divorce – you name it, he has experienced it on his fitness journey. He’s faced his demons, which helps him connect with you. It’s not just about shedding those pounds; it’s about building self-trust and conquering those deep-rooted issues from the past. By sharing his vulnerabilities, Ali can open the door to help you on a genuine level. Because here’s the thing: trust is something most people struggle with no matter what they seek or how they seek it.
We sat down with Ali for a quick interview.
Why do you do what you do?
“I ventured into business knowing that adhering to the mission creed of others was inevitable, right? And you know, mainly when I worked as a personal trainer in gyms, I couldn’t just spill out my flaws and say, “Hey, I’ve got alcohol issues” or “Today, I’m not feeling great, I’m sad, I’m depressed.”
“Your 5 a.m. client certainly didn’t sign up for that! So, I always wore a mask in the gym, you know? Looking fabulous, saying all the right words, being all motivational – I had that corporate mask on. Yeah, that one!
“But guess what? It only made things worse for me. And frankly, it was a little selfish. I couldn’t help people in that state. I trained clients in gyms for years, and all they lost was a measly five pounds—no fundamental transformations. But as soon as I broke off on my own and decided, “I’m doing things my way,” everything changed. I could finally be myself, which made it easier for clients to be themselves. And then we started making fundamental differences. Transformations. We worked on healing the insides, which is essential, and that led to more effortless healing on the outside: excellent six-packs and an impressive set of arms. Yeah, we got those too. Because we do work you just wouldn’t find in a gym setting, it’s captivating and engaging and unlocks a new level of results.”
What is the most significant event that ever happened to you?
“One of the most memorable events in my life was an Ayahuasca journey. It’s a personal story, but I embarked on this transformative adventure a few years back. You see, we guys sometimes crave healing, and it can be challenging to find the right avenues. Traditional therapy can only take you so far if you’re not willing to be brutally honest. So, feeling lost, I began searching for alternative paths towards healing.
“I discovered Ayahuasca and other plant medicines, and let me tell you, it’s not some shallow drug-induced experience—it’s a profoundly spiritual one. When you emerge from the experience, it’s not like a magic fix that solves everything and turns your life around overnight. No, it’s more like an awakening, a revelation that reveals all the suppressed pain, unresolved wounds and emotional baggage that you’ve been carrying. It’s an invitation to do the actual work, to confront and heal those deep-rooted issues.
“That experience was truly transformational. It’s been about a year and a half, maybe two years since then, and I’ve been actively engaging in this unpacking process and self-discovery. It’s not easy, but it’s incredibly empowering and revitalizing. Especially for men, who are often taught to suppress their emotions and avoid vulnerability, this journey has been like a breath of fresh air in a world that often discourages emotional growth.”
If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a delivery service, what would it be?
“Discover someone who’s experienced precisely what you’re going through, even those you hesitate to mention because they understand the ins and outs. They’ve been there, gathering wisdom along the way. If they can’t directly assist, they’ll surely guide you in the right direction, drawing from their own sources of support.”
