When Rose Michelle Thompson, a dedicated nurse with over two decades of experience, decided to establish her own personal care business, it was a heartfelt endeavor inspired by personal loss and the desire to serve her community. “I’ve been a nurse since 1998,” Rose shares. “I feel like I’m a caring and compassionate person, and I know what it takes to take care of people.”
Her business, Rose Personal Care, based in Columbia, Mississippi, offers a unique alternative for elderly individuals who prefer to stay in the comfort of their own homes rather than moving into a nursing facility. Rose and her team of compassionate caregivers provide essential services such as medication administration, rides to doctor appointments, shopping, and daily care. “Our goal is to help our clients maintain their independence and dignity while receiving the necessary care they need at home,” Rose explains.
Rose’s journey into entrepreneurship was shaped by a series of personal events. In October 2015, Rose’s brother passed away suddenly, which led her to reconsider her career path. “After my brother passed, I felt the need to do something different, to be at home more,” she recalls. “I wanted to start a business that would allow me to be there for others while also finding solace for myself.” This decision was further influenced by her mother’s battle with cancer, which required Rose to be more present at home.
In addition to managing her business, Rose faced her own health challenges, battling breast cancer from 2020 to 2022. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and surgeries, she continued to run her business, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to helping others. “I was doing my business the whole time I was undergoing treatment,” she says. “It kept me going and focused on the positive.”
Rose Personal Care serves clients throughout Mississippi, focusing on the elderly population aged 65 and above. The business primarily receives clients through referrals, word-of-mouth, and partnerships with organizations like “A Place for Mom,” which helps connect families with senior care services. Rose is proud of the network she’s built and the quality of care her team provides. “I try to hire people who are compassionate and dedicated, just like me,” she notes.
Rose’s business also offers discounts to veterans and other groups as part of her commitment to making care accessible and affordable. “I currently have a veteran client who receives a discount,” she says. It’s important for her that everyone has access to the care they need.
Beyond her professional commitments, Rose is an active participant in her community. She participates in an annual breast cancer walk in Columbia, raising funds to support local cancer patients and survivors. “This is my third-year walking,” she shares proudly. The money raised is donated to the cancer center in Hattiesburg.
Rose’s dedication to her clients and community extends beyond the practicalities of care. Each year, she creates special moments for her clients by delivering holiday fruit baskets, a gesture that has become a beloved tradition among her clients. “They look forward to it every year,” she smiles. “It’s the little things that can mean the most.”
For those considering her services, Rose emphasizes her years of experience, her compassionate approach, and her personal connection to the work. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I genuinely care about the people I serve,” she says. “I have the background, education, and experience, and I try to hire people who I trust to care for our clients as I would.”
Rose Personal Care is based in Columbia, Mississippi, and is committed to providing high-quality home health care services for elderly individuals across the state. Whether clients require short-term or long-term care, Rose and her team are ready to provide the support they need to live comfortably and independently.
