In a world where many voices go unheard, Tyson Pete is making sure that changes. As an award-winning author, life coach, private chef, and founder of P.R.O.U.D. Inc., Pete has built an ecosystem of services designed to empower individuals, strengthen families, and advance communities. Based in Los Angeles, this Kansas native has transformed his personal journey of self-discovery into a powerful mission: creating safe spaces where people can be authentically themselves.

Pete’s tagline for P.R.O.U.D. Inc. captures the essence of his work perfectly: “Healing homes, strengthening fathers, and advancing communities.” But for Pete, this isn’t just a business philosophy. It’s a way of life that stems from his own transformative experiences.

A Journey of Self-Discovery

Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Pete’s path to Los Angeles was anything but straightforward. His journey took him from Kansas to New Jersey, then Arizona, and finally to the West Coast. Along the way, he accumulated a wealth of experiences that would shape his future work.

“There was a moment in therapy when I was asked who Tyson was, and I couldn’t answer,” Pete reflects. “I knew who the father was, who the husband was, who the son was, but I never knew who I was. The learning of me and the acceptance of myself is a big thing for me. Once I grew personally, I was able to extend that to other areas of my life.”

This profound moment of self-realization became the foundation for everything Pete does today. His personal brand tagline, “turning pain into purpose and purpose into power,” reflects the journey he’s traveled and the path he helps others navigate.

The Birth of P.R.O.U.D.

P.R.O.U.D. Inc. stands for Preparing Remarkable, Outstanding, Unstoppable, Determined leaders. As a nonprofit organization for gay fathers and LGBTQ families, P.R.O.U.D. addresses a need Pete identified through his own experiences.

“Gay fathers are kind of looked down upon, not only in society, but even when we’re out to eat with our children,” Pete explains. “The fathers look at things a little bit different. We’re protective of our children. I wanted to create something for the unseen to be heard, to have a voice.”

But P.R.O.U.D. has evolved beyond its initial mission. Today, it serves anyone who feels unseen or unheard, regardless of their background. The mission carries through all of Pete’s programs and services: providing the language, healing strategies, and generational wisdom that fathers and families were never taught.

Award-Winning Author and Educator

In July 2025, Pete won the Regal Summit Book Award for Best Parenting for his book “Courageous Love: A Self-Help Guide for Gay Fathers.” The book, released in April 2025, represents a return to writing after nearly a decade away from the craft.

“I took a long break from writing,” Pete shares. “I said if I was ever going to write again, it would have to be something that meant something to me. It would have to change the game.”

The success of “Courageous Love” exceeded Pete’s expectations and sparked what he calls the Courageous Love Collective. He’s now releasing a new book each month for the next year, covering topics from teen motherhood to emotional healing. His second book draws on diverse cultural wisdom, incorporating everything from Southern traditions to British anecdotes and practical home remedies.

“I took everybody’s insight on raising children,” Pete explains. “You always hear there’s no manual for raising a child. So I created one that draws from different cultures and histories.”

Pete is also launching a magazine for queer families, further expanding the reach of his message.

Comprehensive Services for Real Change

What sets Pete apart is the breadth of services he offers, all tied together by a common thread: authentic, lasting transformation.

As a certified life coach with over 10 years of experience, Pete provides general life coaching, relationship coaching, and career coaching. He’s currently pursuing his psychology degree to deepen his understanding of human behavior and needs.

“Why would people come to me?” Pete asks. “If they want something real, something relatable, someone who can visualize that vision with you. I’m not going to leave your side until you accomplish what it is you want to accomplish. I’m going to always be there and provide you the aftercare that you need.”

Pete’s culinary background adds another dimension to his work. A Le Cordon Bleu graduate who began his culinary journey in 2008, he has cooked for notable celebrities including Senator Cory Booker, Lauryn Hill, and Queen Latifah. His culinary expertise plays into his vision for P.R.O.U.D., where he plans to incorporate cooking programs into future initiatives.

The P.R.O.U.D. Academy: Education with Heart

One of Pete’s most ambitious projects is the P.R.O.U.D. Academy, a homeschool and private school program for grades K through 12. Currently serving three students, the academy is built on the curriculum developed from Pete’s books and life coaching principles.

“I wanted the children of LGBTQ families to have a place to be themselves, to be comfortable talking about their families without being ridiculed or bullied,” Pete explains. “But it became broader than that. It’s for anybody who wants to be themselves and have a community that cares for you no matter what.”

The academy represents Pete’s commitment to creating safe spaces where differences are not just tolerated but celebrated. He’s a member of the Homeschool Association of California, ensuring his program meets educational standards while maintaining its unique focus on emotional well-being and acceptance.

Building Community Through Authenticity

Pete is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Black Authors Association and the Nonfiction Association. He’s constantly seeking new connections and opportunities to expand his reach and impact.

“The world is a melting pot,” Pete says. “All of those differences make us who we are. Without the differences, how can we appreciate what we have? It’s for everybody.”

This philosophy of inclusion extends to Pete’s view of his work. He doesn’t see himself as having competition. Instead, he believes in building together, broadening opportunities together. “It’s not about who wins,” he says. “If one wins, we all win.”

A Vision for the Future

Looking five years ahead, Pete sees P.R.O.U.D. growing into a household name. His plans include expanding the academic program and establishing shelter programs for single fathers, particularly those who, like Pete once did, face discrimination when seeking help.

As a single father of four children and now a young grandfather at 38, Pete brings personal experience to every aspect of his work. His hobbies reflect his commitment to continuous growth: writing, long walks, long drives, and discovering new things about himself.

“I’m interested in learning new things about myself,” Pete says. “Once I became who I am, loving myself, realizing my worth, putting me first, I’m finding out new things all the time. Getting to know me and getting to know others is what I do. I love what I do.”

Making a Difference, One Person at a Time

Pete’s approach is deeply personal and relational. Whether he’s coaching a client through a career transition, helping a father navigate parenthood, or teaching students at the academy, he brings the same commitment to authentic connection and lasting change.

His success comes from his willingness to be vulnerable about his own journey while maintaining professional boundaries. He shares his struggles not for sympathy but to show others that transformation is possible.

For anyone seeking guidance, education, or simply a safe space to be themselves, Tyson Pete and P.R.O.U.D. Inc. offer more than services. They offer community, understanding, and a pathway to becoming the leaders they were meant to be in their homes, communities, and in their own healing.
