A Journey Inspired by Passion

Tracy’s love affair with the beauty industry began during her hairstyling days. While perfecting her craft, she noticed a recurring issue among her clients: skin and scalp conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Motivated to help, she began formulating natural shampoos, conditioners, and oils, which quickly became a hit among her clients.

“The feedback was overwhelming,” Tracy recalls. “Seeing the positive impact my products had on my clients inspired me to take this journey further. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about building confidence and promoting wellness.”

In February 2022, Modern Scentology was born—a luxury hair and skincare brand offering handcrafted, all-natural products for sensitive and mature skin. By July, she expanded her vision with Skin Deep by Tracy, a personalized service line providing holistic facials using her handmade products.

 

Scaling Dreams with Heart 

Operating primarily as an e-commerce business, Modern Scentology’s reach extends across the U.S. via its Shopify store. Tracy also maintains a strong local presence, participating in farmers’ markets and craft shows throughout Houston and Texas. Skin Deep by Tracy, on the other hand, operates from a cozy studio inside a nail salon, offering customized skincare treatments.

But Tracy has even bigger dreams. “In the next two to three years, I plan to open my own day spa,” she says. “I want to create a sanctuary where people can relax and focus on their self-care.”

 

Making Waves Beyond Houston 

In her short tenure as a business owner, Tracy has already garnered national attention. Earlier this year, she was selected from over 100,000 applicants to compete on The Blox, the world’s largest entrepreneurial competition show. While she didn’t take home the top prize, the experience was transformative.

“Being part of The Blox taught me how to scale my business and embrace digital tools,” Tracy explains. “It also reinforced the importance of networking with like-minded entrepreneurs. That experience gave me the confidence to take my business to the next level.”

 

More Than Just a Business 

Tracy’s commitment to her customers goes beyond selling products. Her motto, “Self-care is health care,” underscores her mission to educate and empower. She uses her website, social media, and in-person interactions to inform customers about the benefits of natural skincare.

“Women, especially moms, often put themselves last,” she notes. “I remind them that taking care of themselves isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Like the airplane analogy: you can’t help others unless you put on your own oxygen mask first.”

Unlike many competitors, Tracy oversees the production of her products from start to finish. “I handcraft every item and use vegetable-derived preservatives to ensure they’re safe and effective,” she says.

Additionally, Tracy’s ability to connect with her customers on a personal level makes her a trusted advisor in the beauty space. She tailors her solutions to meet individual needs, especially for children and adults with eczema and other sensitive skin conditions.

 

A Bright Future 

With plans to rebrand and expand her offerings in 2024, Tracy is just getting started. She also has her sights set on Shark Tank, hoping to pitch her brand to a national audience within the next two years.

For now, Tracy’s focus remains on balancing her roles as a business owner, wife, and mother while staying true to her mission.

“I’m inspired by nature and the people I meet,” she says. “This journey isn’t just about building a business; it’s about building connections and creating something meaningful.”
