Kelly Nunn has worn many hats in the music world—touring artist, producer, coach, and now founder of Sound Source Studios in St. Pete. With more than three decades of experience, he has transformed a lifetime of performance into a powerful creative resource for local and remote artists.
After starting his professional journey at age 16 with a record contract and hitting the road at 17, Kelly spent nearly two decades touring full-time. That experience laid the groundwork for what would become a mission: help others find their sound, hone their skills, and thrive in today’s music landscape.

Sound Source Studios isn’t just a recording space. It’s a fully-equipped audio and video production studio that serves artists, podcasters, voice actors, audiobook creators, and even film departments at universities. Whether it’s recording music, producing voice overs, or restoring vintage tapes, Kelly and his team bring technical precision and creative insight to every project.
Clients range from first-timers to seasoned professionals. From local bands to the University of Colorado’s film department, Kelly ensures each project is treated with care and attention to detail—even if the team is collaborating remotely across state lines.
What truly sets Kelly apart is his mentorship. With a deep understanding of both performance and production, and background as a pastor, he works closely with emerging artists to coach live performances, develop their brand, and navigate the complexities of the music business.
“My job is to be a critical listener,” he says. “I’m not just engineering sound—I’m helping shape careers.”
From performance coaching to pre-production strategies, Kelly offers more than just studio time. His clients benefit from his years of stage experience and his intuitive grasp of what it takes to succeed long-term.

Kelly’s journey to opening Sound Source was anything but traditional. After leaving the corporate world—prompted by an unshakable sense that he wasn’t doing what he loved—he returned to his creative roots. A serendipitous offer for an empty studio space allowed him to restart his business. He took the leap, invested everything, and hasn’t looked back since.
“It was what made me happy,” he reflects. “I wanted to help people create and not be stuck in something that drained me.”
Outside the studio, Kelly contributes to meaningful causes, especially those tied to music therapy. He collaborates with All Children’s Hospital to produce “heartbeat songs” for terminally ill children—a process that allows parents to keep a part of their child forever.
His emotional connection to these projects stems from personal loss, giving his work even deeper significance. “Music heals,” Kelly says. “And sometimes, it’s all we have left to hold on to.”
After living in Florida for over 25 years, Kelly has a strong bond with the Tampa-St. Pete area. With its deep-rooted music culture and family-friendly lifestyle, it provides the perfect backdrop for his business and personal life.
“St. Pete has all the culture you could want,” he says. “I take my kids downtown to the museums, the murals. It’s a great place to raise a family and be inspired.”
Kelly continues to expand his impact through motivational speaking and music advocacy. He’s even developing a TED talk about the power of music therapy. As technology evolves, so does his approach—offering remote production and virtual coaching while still maintaining the human touch that sets Sound Source apart.
For first-time clients, SoundSource Studios offers a $75 discount—just one more way Kelly continues to make professional production accessible to all.
