Houston native Sheniqua Shanklin is more than a vocalist. She’s a mentor, community leader, and the heart behind NRTH EYDN, a boutique music agency dedicated to personal and artistic development. Her work is deeply rooted in her own journey as a touring and studio artist since the mid-2000s.
Founded in 2022, NRTH EYDN isn’t just another music agency. It’s a hub for growth, confidence, and empowerment through the arts. Sheniqua’s core offering is a mentorship program designed for individuals aged 12 and up, using vocal training as a tool to build self-esteem and performance skills. Each six-to-eight-week session culminates in a showcase, giving students the opportunity to shine on stage and celebrate their progress.
What sets Sheniqua apart is her focus on the whole person. Her programs go beyond music, integrating essential life skills like financial literacy and job readiness. She envisions a pathway from artistic expression to home ownership, offering support and knowledge that many aspiring artists never receive.
Most of Sheniqua’s students are local, and her services are offered both in person and virtually. While she prefers the personal touch of face-to-face instruction, she continues to innovate ways to connect with students remotely. She brings in other instructors and professionals from her network when needed, ensuring every student receives comprehensive support.
In 2017, Sheniqua faced a life-threatening experience during the birth of her youngest son. That moment changed everything. After recovering, she poured her energy into producing her own music, releasing her first self-produced single. That experience lit a fire within her to empower others to pursue their passions fully and realistically.
Through NRTH EYDN, Sheniqua has become a resource for young creatives in Houston. From mentoring to event planning to creating scholarships for performing artists, her reach extends far beyond the recording booth. She’s currently accepting donations for her scholarship fund, aimed at helping high school, college, and graduate students who are pursuing the arts.
Though Sheniqua leads NRTH EYDN primarily on her own, she relies on an expansive network of instructors, producers, and professionals. This network allows her to offer tailored support to each student based on their interests and goals, fostering real connections within the creative community.
For Sheniqua, Houston isn’t just home—it’s a source of inspiration. She loves the city’s vibrant arts and culinary scenes and takes full advantage of its green spaces for long outdoor walks. She even has a soft spot for discovering parks and learning their histories.
NRTH EYDN is steadily growing. And Sheniqua is fine with that. Her focus isn’t on fast profits, but on long-term cultural impact. She’s building something sustainable—a future where creativity, education, and opportunity intersect for the next generation of artists.
