Meet Tha Saints: How Two New Jersey Entrepreneurs Are Revolutionizing Home Cooking with Gourmet Compound Butters

Meet tha Saints - Transforming the way people cook at home

When Asia Carter and her partner Alliah Carter met, they discovered they shared three powerful passions: a love for food, a desire to travel, and an entrepreneurial spirit that refused to be contained. What started as a conversation about bringing the flavors of New Orleans to New Jersey has blossomed into Meet Tha Saints, a thriving compound butter company that’s transforming the way people cook at home.

“We realized within weeks of meeting that we could do something special together,” Asia recalls. “We both had this hustle in us, and we loved food. So we put it on paper and legalized the company.”

Nine years later, Meet Tha Saints has grown from a local New Jersey operation to a nationwide business, selling premium compound butters through Walmart, Etsy, their own website at meetthasaints.com, and in select grocery stores. Their journey reflects not just business acumen, but a deep commitment to quality, community, and making gourmet cooking accessible to everyone.

The Origin Story: A Taste of New Orleans

Meet tha Saints - Transforming the way people cook at home

The inspiration for Meet Tha Saints comes from a deeply personal place. Asia’s family hails from New Orleans, and when she introduced Alliah to the city’s iconic charbroiled oysters, it was love at first bite.

“She fell in love with charbroiled oysters the same way I had over my lifetime,” Asia explains. “We asked ourselves, how can we bring these flavors to New Jersey?”

The answer was compound butter. Their first creation, the Cajun Garlic butter, became the foundation of their business. To make authentic charbroiled oysters, you need butter infused with seasoning and garlic, cooked over an open flame. That signature flavor became the inspiration for a product line that would eventually grow to eight or nine different varieties, each one inspired by the couple’s travels and culinary adventures.

The name “Meet Tha Saints” carries special significance beyond the New Orleans connection. Both Asia and Alliah grew up in the church, and the concept of saints resonates with their values and heritage.

“This product is something we’ve dedicated to our ancestors and our saints,” Asia shares. “In this space, you don’t see many people like us. We’re LGBTQ, we’re married, we’re Black-owned, and we’ve created this product. We’re modern day saints, and we want to show that you can be like us and succeed.”

A Product Born from Real Needs

What sets Meet Tha Saints apart in the marketplace isn’t just their compelling story, but the genuine problem they solve for home cooks everywhere. In today’s busy world, people want to create delicious, restaurant-quality meals without spending hours in the kitchen on prep work.

“Our butters help you cut your cook time and prep time down significantly,” Asia explains. “We’ve taken care of chopping up all the fresh produce and putting it inside the butter. All you need to bring to the table is your vegetable, your protein, your rice or pasta, or seafood. All the seasoning is already inside these butters.”

The product line has expanded to include flavors inspired by the couple’s travels and their friends’ favorite dishes. From Cajun Garlic to a soon-to-be-released Honey Lemon Pepper, each butter is crafted with careful attention to both flavor and quality.

What truly distinguishes Meet Tha Saints from competitors is their commitment to using only the finest ingredients. While many compound butter companies use margarine or various oils, Meet Tha Saints uses exclusively double A grade butter with all-natural, organic fresh products. There are no artificial ingredients, no margarine, no compromises.

“Everything in our butter is all-natural,” Asia emphasizes. “That’s really important to us.”

The company has also pioneered unique offerings in the market. Meet Tha Saints is the first company to infuse 24-karat gold flakes, champagnes, and premium liquors into their butters, creating luxury products that turn ordinary meals into extraordinary experiences.

From Side Hustle to Full-Time Passion

The path to success for Meet Tha Saints has been one of evolution and adaptation. Asia worked as a Child Protective Service case manager and social worker, while Alliah was a teacher. They initially started as a catering company and even operated a food truck before finding their true calling in compound butters.

The COVID-19 pandemic, while challenging for many businesses, proved to be a pivotal moment for Meet Tha Saints. When restaurants closed and people stayed home, the couple pivoted to offering private chef services, cooking for clients in their homes.

“We would leave butter gifts for our clients after the gig was over,” Asia recalls. “They would call us up saying the butter was awesome and asking how they could get more. That’s when we really realized this butter thing was going to work.”

That validation from customers gave them the confidence to focus fully on their butter line. In 2023, another life change reinforced this direction when Asia retired early from her state job and was able to dedicate herself full-time to the business.

“Going from doing this business part-time to working it all day, every day, is something you have to get adjusted to,” she reflects. “But it’s been a great journey.”

Community at the Heart

For Asia and Alliah, business success isn’t just measured in sales figures. It’s about building community, supporting others, and giving back. The couple regularly offers discounts for teachers and military personnel, and they create promotional codes around special occasions like birthdays, Mardi Gras, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day to make their products more accessible.

Their charitable work extends beyond discounts. Meet Tha Saints supports the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP), helping foster children in the community. They’ve donated butter to local Black-owned grocery stores to help families in need, ensuring that quality, nutritious food reaches those who might not otherwise have access to it.

The tri-state area holds a special place in their hearts, and New Jersey in particular has been instrumental in their success.

“New Jersey is great for business,” Asia says. “A lot of our clients here have supported us from day to day and kept our business afloat for nine years. New Jersey has a special place in our hearts.”

Currently, Meet Tha Saints products are available in one grocery store in Paterson, New Jersey, but the couple’s ambitions extend far beyond a single location. They envision their butters in grocery stores across the country, with their own flagship stores and restaurants that showcase what can be created with their products.

Innovation Through Inspiration

The creative process at Meet Tha Saints is delightfully organic. As self-proclaimed foodies who love to travel, Asia and Alliah are constantly seeking inspiration from the world around them. Asia loves seafood and Caribbean cuisine, while Alliah gravitates toward Italian dishes. Together, they explore different flavors and cuisines, always thinking about how they can translate those experiences into butter.

“When you’re a foodie, it’s hard to pinpoint one thing you like,” Asia laughs. “We love food in general. We go out and eat, we travel, and we say, ‘We like this. How can we put this in butter?'”

Their friends and family serve as their test group. The couple entertains frequently, using these gatherings as opportunities to try out new flavors and get honest feedback. This approach has led to consistent winners, including their brown sugar cinnamon butter, which one customer loved so much he was caught eating it straight from the container with a spoon.

“We laughed so hard about that,” Asia remembers. “But it also gave us confidence. If someone is eating it plain, that means it’s good.”

A Vision for the Future

When Asia looks five years into the future, she sees Meet Tha Saints as more than just a butter company. She envisions a brand with products in hundreds or thousands of stores internationally, flagship locations, restaurants, and a consulting arm that helps other small business entrepreneurs bring their products to market.

“We want to help thousands of small business entrepreneurs get their products to where they need to be,” she says. “We see this legacy growing to the point where we have flagship stores and restaurants.”

The couple has already begun laying the groundwork for this expansion. In addition to their butter line, they offer consulting services, teaching aspiring food entrepreneurs how to take a product from concept to retail-ready. Drawing from their own nine-year journey, they guide others through the complexities of food production, packaging, distribution, and marketing.

Their story has gained recognition beyond their customer base. Meet Tha Saints has been featured in several online and print magazines, appeared on the Donna Drake Show, and was interviewed by Channel 9 news. They’ve also had features on local radio stations, each appearance introducing their products to new audiences and expanding their reach.

Celebrating Identity and Breaking Barriers

As a Black-owned, LGBTQ business, Meet Tha Saints represents more than just quality food products. They’re breaking barriers and creating representation in an industry where diverse voices have historically been underrepresented. Asia and Alliah, who married in August, are proud to serve as examples of what’s possible.

“We’re trying to show that you can be like us,” Asia says. “In spaces like this, you don’t see many people like us.”

Their certifications reflect their commitment to this mission. Meet Tha Saints holds both Minority Women’s Business Enterprise and LGBTQ business certifications, opening doors and creating opportunities for partnerships with organizations that value diversity and inclusion.

The company’s tagline, “It’s Butta Baby,” captures the playful, approachable spirit that defines their brand. It’s a reminder that while they’re serious about quality and business, they also believe in enjoying the journey and bringing joy to others through food.

Making Gourmet Accessible

At its core, Meet Tha Saints is about democratizing gourmet cooking. Not everyone has the time to chop fresh herbs, measure spices, and create complex flavor profiles from scratch. Not everyone has attended culinary school or spent years perfecting their technique. But everyone deserves to eat well and enjoy delicious food.

“These butters are timeless, ageless,” Asia notes. “There’s a flavor for almost anybody. But right now, our primary customers are African American women between the ages of 25 and 40.”

The versatility of compound butter means it works with virtually any protein, vegetable, or starch. Whether you’re grilling salmon, sautéing vegetables, making pasta, or yes, charbroiling oysters, Meet Tha Saints has a butter that will elevate your dish from ordinary to extraordinary.

For Asia and Alliah, every container of butter sold represents more than a transaction. It’s an invitation into their culinary world, a taste of New Orleans in New Jersey, and a reminder that with the right ingredients and a little creativity, anyone can cook like a professional chef.
