We sat down with Mike and Francine for a quick interview –

Q:  What exactly do you do?

A: “Well, pool table re-felting is the majority of our business. Re-felting is often needed due to liquid spills, and of course, just general wear and tear. We also change the rubbers in the side cushions to assure you that your balls get the proper bounce. We do installations for other companies as well and work for regular movers to disassemble a pool table and crate it up for shipping. Often flooring and tile companies will call us when a table needs to be moved to replace the flooring. And we can survey a used table for prospective buyers to be sure that they know what they are getting into. ”

Q: How did you get into this profession?

A: “I went to work for wholesale billiards company installing new tables for the retail market. They weren’t really service-oriented, so I decided it was something I could make a nice business. I put out some ads on Craigslist, etc., and got the business going. Since then, we’ve serviced over 1,000 pool tables!”

Q: What’s the most unusual situation you’ve run into on the job?

A: “I guess it would be that we have done work for a number of celebrities whose names I won’t mention due to privacy concerns. It’s always interesting to see how those people handle service workers like ourselves. Some are very gracious and appreciative, while others are very abrupt and cold.”

Q: If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a pool table, what would it be?

A: “Do your homework before committing to a purchase. Play a game on the table. Check the cushions. They can be hard and lose their bounce. If they need to be changed, the entire table will need to be re-felted. And then there’s the moving cost. Most regular movers will not handle a pool table. We’re always available to assist you in checking over a pool table you intend to purchase at no charge.”

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: “We both love the outdoors and enjoy hiking with our son and 3 dogs. For inside entertainment, we enjoy the classic movies.”
