Nathaniel Dodson Brings Big Brands at Little Prices to Potsdam, NY!

Nathaniel Dodson

For the past year, Nathaniel Dodson has been selling high-quality products for rock-bottom prices on eBay. Recently, he decided to bring his great products to a physical location at the Market Square Mall in Potsdam, New York. His store, Thrifty Threads LLC, opened on May 1, 2023.

Nathaniel says, “There’s a few things that make us different: excellent customer service, excellent quality of products, and excellent pricing. I’m a people-person, so I love to go the extra mile to help somebody. On top of that, when you get something that says Champion, Wrangler, or Carhartt from Thrifty Threads, you’re paying the Wal-Mart price but you’re getting the real product – not the Wal-Mart version.”

Nathaniel Dodson is the owner of Thrifty Threads LLC, he’s lived in St. Lawrence County for nearly 25 years.  He’s a raving Clarkson University Golden Knights fan. You’ll often hear him hootin’ and hollerin’ until his voice goes out!

Nathaniel is what we like to call a Local Business Hero: a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to his community. High standards of professionalism and strong work ethics of small business owners like Nat are the infrastructure of Potsdam’s economy.

Every dollar that Nathaniel makes goes back to supporting the local business ecosystem and the community.  Thrifty Threads supports the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation and Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

We sat down with John for a quick interview –

Why do you do what you do?

“I have lived with Autism and Asperger’s all my life, but I’m still fortunate that I’ve had a good support system and have been able to develop social skills due to my large family. Over time, I learned that I love retail, talking to people, and helping people.

“ Eventually, I noticed that people love to shop in this area, but there’s really nowhere to go and not everybody has a lot to spend. So I started this store so people could find a good product they used to buy for $200, but in my shop it’s only $100. They can leave feeling good about themselves. Of course, I hope they tell their family and friends they found an awesome deal and bring them in because I want to be a ‘family-friend’ kind of business.”

How did you get into this profession?

“I started on eBay in June of last year and it has steadily grown. Once I saw there is a demand for these products, I knew I needed to bring them to my local community. We are also authorized retailers for ATT and Ultra Mobile.”

If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a mobile phone plan, what would it be?

“Make sure they’re actually trying to solve your problem. Lots of stores and salespeople want to push the highest plan to people who don’t need it. There’s no reason to pay for a $100 plan when a $40 plan will do everything you need.“

For those of you who are looking to save money when you shop without sacrificing quality, Thrifty Threads should be your first choice. Thrifty Threads supports our troops with a 20% discount to military personnel and first responders. Nathaniel also extends this discount to senior citizens.
