For more than 20 years, Nick Silwal has been studying and working to create NS Home & Roof Inspection, the most capable and accessible inspection services company in the world. Nick or (Nischal in his native tongue) is Nepali, and his life and business reflect this. His customers and associates are immediately taken by his friendly and cheerful nature and learn quickly to appreciate his helpful and loyal attitude.
“What makes NS Home & Roof Inspection LLC different is that we care so much about the people we serve. We are one of the very few home inspection service companies willing to perform “same day service” and even fewer ensuring that anyone can get a professional and fair inspection, regardless of their financial abilities.”
NS Home & Roof Inspection stands by its slogan, which says: “Home & Roof Inspections. Anytime. Anywhere.
Nick and his NS Home & Roof Inspection LLC team of “Certified Inspectors” have been inspecting every kind of roof, foundation, HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical systems for realtors, home buyers, home sellers, or people who just want to make sure their property is safe and operational. Headquartered in Arlington VA, Nick easily serves clients in Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Nick’s reputation for quality made its way to San Francisco, where he will be opening another NS Home & Roof Inspection office later this year.
One of the things clients appreciate about NS Home & Roof Inspection LLC is the expertise they bring to every job. After earning his Bachelors in Civil Engineering and Building Science, Nick invested another 20 years learning everything there is to know about buildings and their operations. He has also invested thousands of hours in training and seminars to earn certifications by some of the most demanding agencies in the world.
NS Home & Roof Inspection LLC team consists of some very talented people who are using the latest equipment in the industry today. Because they also use the most up-to-date software, clients can get their complete reports fast.
Nick is what we like to call a Local Biz Hero, a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to his community. High stands of professionalism and strong work ethics of small business owners like Nick are the infrastructure of the local economy.
Every dollar that Nick earns serving his clients is reinvested to support the local business ecosystem and his community. “We created NS Home & Roof Inspection to help people. We donate significantly to help homeless children. We provide food and clothing for the needy. And we are committed to helping the Nepali people return back home.”
A 2015 earthquake that killed 8000 people in Nepal is a recent example of a situation in which Nick opened his heart and his pocketbook to help others.
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: “We are first and foremost here to help. When I lived in Nepal, everything was difficult. When I graduated and started working, the job sites were far up on the mountainside. There was no transportation. So I walked. Sometimes it would take one or 2 days one way. And it would be the same coming back. Altitude sickness could be debilitating. Some European trekkers befriended me, gave me altitude sickness medicine, and helped me develop skills to handle the mountains.
Q: What did you learn from this?
A: Their help for me really inspired me to serve others. I now know that life is best lived with the community. We can’t really make it alone. We need each other.
Q: How did you get into this profession?
A: “When I came to America, it seemed natural. I was a Civil Engineer with more than a decade of industry experience. I worked in the industry for a decade more, certifying in ASHI, CREIA, InterNACHI, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors. I completed the ICA Home Inspectors Certification, plus the ICA Professional Real Estate Inspection Certification Program.
After a while, I had learned so much that I didn’t think it was right to have to cut corners or rush jobs working for someone else.
Q: What’s the most unusual situation that ever happened to you on the job?
A: “One time, I was called out on a very cold morning to inspect a roof on a tall building. I set a 40’ ladder against the side of the building and started climbing. The client could tell I was scared. But I didn’t stop. I climbed very carefully to the top and got all the pictures we needed. He couldn’t believe I did it. As a result, I have a life-long friend and client!”
Q: If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a home or roof inspector, what would it be?
A: “Definitely check referrals. Ask to see a copy of a report from another job, too. If it looks incomplete, or if it seems to raise more questions than answers, call somebody else. You need to know for certain that you’ll get a quality report where you can trust the results.”
