Dr. Kenneth Booth Jr. is the Senior Pastor of The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral Incorporated and Presiding Bishop of The How-To Fellowship, a beacon of hope and transformation in San Bernardino, CA. Founded and led by Dr. Booth, the church is dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus on earth, addressing the community’s spiritual and tangible needs.
The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral is more than a place of worship; it’s a community hub offering a wide range of services to uplift those in need. Recently, they launched engaged counseling services, providing pastoral counseling akin to life coaching. “Our vision extends beyond our local area as we strive to reach and support anyone in need, regardless of their location,” stated Dr. Booth
Our initiatives include community outreach programs, job readiness training, and efforts to tackle the housing crisis through partnerships with local entities. We are California-certified home developers looking to acquire land for building affordable housing solutions like ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) to help those affected by the housing shortage.
Education is a cornerstone of our ministry. We’re excited to launch the CODC Engaged University online, offering free and paid courses in partnership with educational providers and various Theological Seminaries. This initiative aims to make education accessible, fostering personal and professional growth.
Our community engagement doesn’t stop there. We’re actively involved in community activism, advocating for residents and addressing their needs through various services and outreach programs. Whether it’s providing food, job training, or spiritual guidance, we are committed to making a tangible impact.
Our holistic approach to ministry sets The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral apart. We are not just focused on Sunday services; we aim to support people in all aspects of life. We aim to help individuals improve their lives through housing, food, jobs, counseling, and education. We believe in showing Christ’s love through action, not just words.
Dr. Booth’s journey is a testament to the power of faith and resilience. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Booth grew up immersed in the church environment.
However, like many, he went through a phase where he wanted to experience life outside the church. During this time, he faced significant life changes that tested his faith and commitment to his calling.
One of Dr. Booth’s most challenging periods was marked by what he describes as “church hurt”—a profound and painful experience that led him to step away from the church for several years. This period was compounded by the passing of his mother, a former pastor whose calling had always been intertwined with his own. Her death was a turning point for Dr. Booth, prompting him to reflect on the prophecy that their destinies were connected. In this moment of grief and introspection, he realized the importance of returning to his faith and fulfilling the calling that had been placed on his life.
Despite these personal challenges, Dr. Booth’s return to the church was marked by renewed vigor and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He channeled his experiences into a deeper understanding of his community’s needs, recognizing the importance of not just preaching the word of God but also meeting the tangible needs of those around him. His story is one of perseverance, illustrating how personal trials can be transformed into a powerful drive to make a difference in the lives of others.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Dr. Booth advocates for education and community engagement. He is working on multiple literary projects, including a soon-to-be-released book, “Church Hurt: Identifying, Healing, and Overcoming.” This book aims to help individuals move beyond their pain, heal, and overcome their struggles. Another upcoming work, “The Currency of Faith,” will further explore the role of faith in navigating life’s challenges.
Dr. Booth embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication through his leadership at The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral. His personal journey continues to inspire many, demonstrating that with faith, perseverance, and a commitment to service, it is possible to overcome any obstacle and make a lasting impact on the world.
As we look to expand our reach and impact, we are seeking support for our new location, which will serve as a hub for community services. Your donations can make a significant difference in helping us provide essential services to those in need.
Contributions can be made through various channels:
Dr. Booth acknowledges the invaluable support of several key individuals in his journey. “If I was recognizing anybody in particular, first I would have to recognize my Archbishop, Thomas F. Henry Jr. of the Congress of Apostles and Bishops (COAAB). It is through him that my holy orders were issued in the first place. If it wasn’t for God gracing him to grace me, I would not be a Presiding Bishop today. I’m able to go to him when I need advice, guidance, or counsel. I also give thanks to my first Assistant Presiding Bishop, Randolph Booth, who has been a great help with the How-To Fellowship, recruiting and spreading the word from the local church. Lastly, I would like to thank Sister Sharina Giddens, one of our top intercessors, for her committed membership and unwavering support.”
Dr. Booth and The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral are dedicated to transforming lives and communities. We invite you to join us in our mission to be the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your support is invaluable.
Dr. Booth’s unwavering commitment to his community and his faith serves as an inspiration to all. His leadership and vision continue to drive The Real Church of the Desert Cathedral towards a future of hope, support, and transformation.
