Raleigh, NC – Wiley’s Abstract Art is the culmination of over 10 years of painting and searching for an outlet. This company provides original abstract paintings on canvas by Wiley Johnson. Wiley is represented by ArtLifting, a company headquartered in Boston, MA that connects socially conscious companies with talented artists impacted by homelessness or disabilities. High quality prints, wallcoverings for interior and exterior spaces, and some of Wiley’s original paintings are available through ArtLifting. Wiley is supported by a team of people who help with the tasks that he can’t perform-varnishing, wiring, and photographing his art, applying to exhibitions, transporting his art, and maintaining his social media and website.
All artists have stories, but this story is different. Wiley is an artist with autism spectrum disorder who began painting as a hobby in 2009. He wasn’t successful at traditional employment; however, his mother and art manager, Joy Johnson, saw how happy it made Wiley when people told him that they like his art. She devoted herself to looking for exhibition opportunities for Wiley. She was able to form an LLC in 2021 to better represent his art business after Chase Bank in Durham, NC purchased gigantic wallcoverings licensed through ArtLifting.
Wiley’s Abstract Art has a heartwarming story of overcoming adversity which distinguishes Wiley and his art from most abstract painters. Wiley’s only brother was killed by an uninsured motorist who drove from Durham to Raleigh to go to a nearby shop. Painting helped Wiley deal with the loss of his brother just like it helps him deal with everyday problems. Wiley’s Abstract Art has also donated a % of painting sales to The ARC of the Triangle, Art for All, and other charities.
Wiley’s Abstract Art’s tagline is “Making Colors Pop.” Charlotte Russell, a Raleigh gallery owner stated, “What makes Wiley’s work great is how he juxtaposes striking colors in raw gestural strokes evoking strong emotion.” Charlotte featured Wiley at the opening of her gallery in October 2021.
The business provides a 10% discount to veterans and is a member of Alignable, a local business networking group. Wiley’s painting entry received an Honorable Mention in a national juried call in Floyd, VA, in 2021. Wiley’s Abstract Art is a unique business that inspires people to feel good when they view and purchase his paintings. Wiley could never get his art out into the world without his family and support staff. Wiley’s is only able to paint because of the support he receives from the community that purchases his art.
