Jason Lewis, a seasoned Pitmaster and CEO of Smokeland Barbecue, has made a name for himself in the Bay Area’s culinary scene. Specializing in smoked meats, Jason’s commitment to quality sets Smokeland Barbecue apart from the competition.

The Smokeland Barbecue Difference

The bay arena's finest smoked meat - Jason Lewis

In an era when many local BBQ places rely on big-box products, Jason believes that good food starts with quality ingredients. Smokeland Barbecue sources all its meat locally, featuring grass-fed beef, vegetarian-fed pork, and lamb from Stemple Creek Ranch in Tomales, CA. They also receive all their seafood from the Monterey Fish Market. Fresh produce comes from local farmers’ markets and local bakers supply bread. This dedication to local, high-quality ingredients shines through in the flavors of Smokeland Barbecue’s dishes.

Serving the Bay Area with Passion

Since its inception in September 2023, Smokeland Barbecue has been serving the Bay Area, catering to anyone hungry for good food made with quality ingredients. Jason and his business partner, Krystal Forrester, handle all aspects of the operation. Jason takes charge of the meat and the pit, while Krystal creates mouthwatering sides and desserts.

A Journey of Resilience and Passion

Jason’s journey to becoming a renowned pitmaster is inspiring. After a life-changing accident in 2020, he found himself struggling to find work. Encouraged by his best friend and business partner, Jason decided to follow his passion for cooking. Today, Smokeland Barbecue is a testament to his resilience and dedication.

Community and Future Goals

While Smokeland Barbecue doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar location yet, Jason and Krystal are actively involved in catering and events. They’ve partnered with bars to provide food and regularly participate in festivals, breweries, and winery events.

Recently, they catered a massive event with over 40,000 attendees, receiving rave reviews for their food.

Jason also has a vision for the future, including educating kids and teaching them how to become pitmasters. This goal reflects his commitment to the community and his passion for sharing his culinary expertise.

Local Roots and Strong Support

Though originally from the East Coast, Jason has found a welcoming home in Oakland, CA. The favorable weather helps with his nerve damage from the accident, and the community’s strong support for small businesses makes Oakland an ideal place for Smokeland Barbecue to thrive.

Cycling Enthusiast and Community Advocate

Outside of his culinary pursuits, Jason enjoys cycling, a hobby that keeps him active and connected to the community. Smokeland Barbecue also supports charitable causes, including UCSF Children’s Hospital for cancer research, the Last Dive Bar, and Teachers Over Stadiums.

Looking Ahead

Smokeland Barbecue is steadily progressing, with plans to offer promotions and military discounts once a brick-and-mortar location is established. Jason’s message to potential customers is clear: know where your food comes from and trust that Smokeland Barbecue is passionate about cooking great-tasting food with quality ingredients.

Join Jason and Krystal at Smokeland Barbecue for an unforgettable experience that celebrates local, high-quality ingredients and a dedication to culinary excellence.
