Confidence, Discipline, and Excellence: How One Tarrant County Pastor Is Transforming Homeschool Martial Arts

Homeschool Martial Arts a family-centered, values-driven community

A Martial Arts School Born from Purpose

In the heart of Tarrant County, Texas, a unique martial arts school is creating waves within the homeschooling community. Homeschool Martial Arts, led by Brian Weaver, is more than just a training ground for self-defense—it’s a family-centered, values-driven community that offers something refreshingly different.

From Family Journey to Community Impact

Brian, a full-time pastor and martial arts instructor, founded Homeschool Martial Arts in 2024. His journey into martial arts began in middle school and rekindled later in life, ultimately culminating in earning his black belt alongside his son. That milestone didn’t just mark personal growth—it sparked a vision to share martial arts with other families who shared his homeschooling lifestyle and faith-based values.

Meeting the Needs of Homeschool Families

“We created this to meet the specific needs of homeschool families,” Brian explains. “Most martial arts schools hold classes in the evenings. But homeschoolers often have more availability during the day. That flexibility, along with affordable tuition and a semester-based schedule, makes it easier for families to stay involved.”

Confidence, Discipline, and Excellence in Every Class

Classes at Homeschool Martial Arts focus on more than physical skills. The curriculum is centered around three key pillars: confidence, discipline, and excellence. Each session, held at the church where Brian serves as pastor, blends technique with personal development. His instruction encourages kids to grow not only as martial artists but as responsible individuals.

“We emphasize growth at home too,” Brian says. “We only meet once a week, so students need to take responsibility for practicing on their own. That builds discipline and shows us quickly who is developing those values.”

Faith-Based, Community-Driven

The environment is welcoming and faith-friendly, though open to all. While Christian values are integrated into the teachings—with group prayers and encouragement to attend church events—the program is open to any family seeking a community-based approach to martial arts.

Small School, Big Impact

Homeschool Martial Arts began with just two students and has already grown to six, with more expected for the upcoming summer semester. Despite its small size, the impact is evident. For example, one student, a friend of Brian’s son, began training informally and became inspired to continue more seriously. Now he’s advancing through the belt ranks, a living example of how commitment and encouragement can shape young lives.

Affordability with Purpose

“This isn’t about making a fortune,” Brian clarifies. “It’s about sharing something I love with others and helping them grow. Our tuition is set low, about $15 per class. Families can also get discounts if multiple children enroll. I want it to be accessible.”

A Space That Feels Like Home

The school operates out of Peace Lutheran Church, where Brian is the lead pastor. The location reinforces the sense of community, allowing families to feel at home and stay connected through additional church-hosted events.

“You don’t have to be Christian to join,” he says, “but we do strive to model biblical principles. That includes everything from how we treat each other in class to encouraging strong character at home.”

Looking Ahead: Building Black Belts and Better People

Brian’s vision for the next five years is modest and meaningful: to develop a tight-knit group of students and help some of them achieve their black belts. “That would be a real mark of success,” he shares. “Not just because of the belt, but because of who they’ve become in the process.”

A Quiet Revolution in Tarrant County

With a calm, humble demeanor and a clear sense of purpose, Brian Weaver has created something rare in the martial arts world—a space where families come together, where values are lived out, and where excellence is pursued not just on the mat, but in life.
