In the summer of 2019, Jessie Ewald was a busy working mom of three children. Between being a team leader at an engineering firm and an active home life, finding time for herself to paint was difficult. She missed having that break and creative outlet, so as fate would have it, Jessie said goodbye to the corporate world and purchased her own business called Wine and Design and never looked back.

Wine and Design offers a variety of creative opportunities from the familiar art classes to specialty classes like knitting, sign design, and the very popular “Paint Your Pet” classes. You simply send in a picture of a pet from which a sketch is drawn for you, then the artist guides you. The “pre-sketch” helps guests, especially beginners, to feel more comfortable since they won’t be starting with a blank canvas. Whatever the activity, this is the place to spend time for a unique date night, a friend’s night or day out, or just a fun way to learn something new.

As anticipated, patrons are welcomed to bring their own wine, or at this particular location of Wine and Design, we offer a tempting selection at our on-site restaurant and bar. The combination of wine, food, and fun makes a great venue for parties of ten or more to book a studio all to themselves for three hours. In fact, to get the youngsters in on the entertainment, we also have a summer camp called Art Buzz Kids that will be held June 21st through July 12th. Spaces are limited, so be sure to get signed up before all the spots are gone.

Unfortunately, Wine and Design was forced to close due to the COVID crisis last year a short eight months in, but it was just a temporary setback that encouraged Jessie to broaden the scope of the business. She decided to offer online classes and take-home kits to meet the needs of the “new normal”. She also began working with corporations creating an innovative method of team building. One company actually had a whopping eighty employees participating in an online painting class.

Wine and Design is eager to help everyone find the class and setting to suit their occasion. Our studio’s manager and local artist, Nicole MacKenzie, and six enthusiastic employees are looking forward to meeting you. Jessie’s advice is, “Relax and make the art yours. Don’t worry about recreating what the artist did. It’s your project and your time to have fun and escape.”
