How one Southern California entrepreneur turned a simple idea into a business that helps people capture the memories they might otherwise forget.
In an age where nearly everyone carries a smartphone and photographs can be taken in an instant, preserving meaningful memories should be easier than ever. Yet despite having a camera constantly within reach, many people leave weddings, birthday celebrations, corporate events, and family gatherings without a single photograph alongside the people who mattered most that day.

It was this surprisingly common experience that inspired Liam Ferris, founder of FotoFunFest Photo Booth, to build a business dedicated to making those moments impossible to miss.
Rather than accepting those missed opportunities as inevitable, Liam set out to create an experience that naturally brings people together in front of the camera, ensuring that the memories people value most are the ones they actually take home.
Long before PhotoFunFest became a business, it was simply a fun addition to a family tradition.
Every Halloween, Liam and his son transformed the front yard of their home into an elaborate haunted house that attracted hundreds of visitors from across the community. Wanting to make the experience even more memorable, Liam set up a simple photo booth where guests could take a picture before making their way through the attraction.
To his surprise, the photo booth quickly became as popular as the haunted house itself. Before long, friends and acquaintances began asking whether he could bring it to weddings, birthday parties, and other celebrations. Those early requests gradually turned a creative hobby into a side business that continued to grow almost entirely through word-of-mouth recommendations.
For years, Liam balanced PhotoFunFest alongside his corporate career. It wasn’t until he was unexpectedly laid off that he found himself asking a different question: What if the business he enjoyed most could become his future?
Rather than seeing the moment as a setback, he chose to treat it as an opportunity. He committed himself to growing PhotoFunFest into the business he had long imagined it could become.
Although PhotoFunFest has evolved considerably over the years, Liam believes its purpose has remained consistent. The business wasn’t built around renting photo booths; it was built around solving a problem he and his wife experienced time and again after gatherings with family and friends.
Despite everyone carrying a smartphone, they would often realize the following day that they hadn’t taken a single photograph together. The conversations had been memorable, the evening had been enjoyable, yet there was nothing tangible to preserve those moments with the people who mattered most.
That experience shaped Liam’s approach to every event. Rather than relying on guests to remember to pull out their phones, a photo booth naturally creates a moment where people pause, gather together, and capture memories that might otherwise be lost in the excitement of the celebration.
Whether clients choose a traditional attended photo booth with instant prints or one of PhotoFunFest’s digital experiences, every event concludes with a complete online gallery, allowing guests to revisit those shared moments long after the music has ended and the celebration is over.

Today, PhotoFunFest serves clients throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, and across Southern California, supporting everything from intimate family celebrations and school fundraisers to corporate team-building events, trade shows, brand activations, and even celebrity gatherings. Although the events themselves vary considerably, Liam approaches each one with the same objective: creating an experience that feels effortless for both hosts and guests while leaving people with lasting memories of the occasion.
To accommodate the diverse needs of his clients, PhotoFunFest offers both traditional attended photo booths with instant printed photographs and modern digital drop-off experiences that allow guests to capture and instantly share branded digital images without requiring an on-site attendant. That flexibility enables Liam to tailor each setup to the character, objectives, and budget of the event rather than expecting clients to fit into a predetermined package.
In a market where photo booth providers have become increasingly common, Liam believes lasting relationships are built less on the equipment itself than on the experience clients have throughout the planning process.
Years spent in pre-sales engineering have naturally shaped Liam’s approach to every client interaction. Rather than beginning with packages and pricing, he sees each inquiry as a conversation, taking the time to understand what the client hopes to achieve, whether that’s creating lasting family keepsakes, encouraging meaningful interaction at a corporate event, or delivering a polished brand activation. Only then does he recommend a solution tailored to the event’s objectives, scale, and budget.
That collaborative approach has become one of PhotoFunFest’s defining characteristics. Clients frequently highlight Liam’s professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to adapt to their needs, qualities that have earned the business a growing number of five-star reviews and an increasing share of new bookings through personal recommendations.
Among the many events PhotoFunFest supports each year, one remains especially meaningful to Liam.
Nearly a decade ago, his wife’s school invited him to bring the photo booth to its annual musical production as part of a fundraising initiative for the theatre program. What began as a single event gradually evolved into a tradition that both Liam and the school community now look forward to every year.
Over time, those evenings have become about far more than raising funds. Parents often return years later with younger children performing in the very same productions, sharing how the photographs from an older sibling’s performance still hang on the walls of their home. For Liam, those conversations serve as a powerful reminder that the images captured during a few minutes of celebration frequently become cherished family keepsakes for many years to come.
That same people-first philosophy extends beyond the events themselves. PhotoFunFest proudly offers discounts for educators and military personnel while continuing to work closely with clients to create solutions that reflect both their vision and their budget.
Away from PhotoFunFest, Liam has developed another passion centered around creating memorable experiences for others—although this one involves a very different kind of performance.
Several years ago, his wife surprised him with a series of classes at the world-renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood. What began as an unexpected gift quickly developed into a fascination with the art of magic, prompting Liam to continue his training well beyond the introductory courses and immerse himself in a community of performers who shared the same enthusiasm.
Today, he serves on the board of his local magic club, performs regularly at community events, and continues refining his skills as both a magician and mentalist. Looking back, Liam believes the experience has given him far more than a new hobby. It introduced him to an entirely new community while strengthening the confidence, communication, and stage presence that naturally carry over into the experiences he creates for his own clients.
Although magic and photo booths may appear to have little in common, both are built around the same objective: creating experiences that leave people smiling long after the moment itself has passed.
Looking toward the future, Liam hopes to transform PhotoFunFest into his full-time profession while continuing to expand throughout Southern California. New branding, an updated website, and a growing number of referrals have positioned the business for its next stage of growth, but the reason behind it remains unchanged.
After all, PhotoFunFest was never created simply to provide photo booths. It was created because Liam discovered just how easy it is for life’s most meaningful moments to pass without anyone thinking to capture them.
For Liam, success has never been measured simply by the number of events on the calendar. It’s measured years later, when a family rediscovers a photograph from a celebration and is instantly transported back to the people, laughter, and memories that made the occasion unforgettable. If PhotoFunFest can help create moments like those, then the business is fulfilling exactly the purpose it was created for.
