Behind every local business is a story worth telling. For Yereny Basulto, founder of Soy Catrina’s Candles and More, that story blends culture, creativity, and a deep love for handmade products that create meaningful moments at home.
Based in Southern California, Yereny is building a brand that reflects who she is, where she comes from, and what she values most: family, connection, and quality.

Yereny was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the United States as a teenager. Her cultural background plays a big role in her business today. The name Soy Catrina carries a dual meaning. “Soy” represents both soy wax—the foundation of her candles—and the phrase “I am,” a nod to personal identity. Catrina reflects Mexican culture and tradition, making the brand both personal and distinctive.
By weaving her heritage into her business, Yereny creates products that feel authentic and heartfelt. Customers don’t just buy a candle—they experience a story.
Candles have always been part of Yereny’s life. From everyday moments at home to special family gatherings, scent has long been a source of comfort and joy. That passion eventually sparked a bigger idea: learning how to make candles herself.
After more than a year of testing, experimenting, and refining her craft, Yereny began sharing her creations with friends and family. Their positive feedback gave her the confidence to take the next step. In late November, Soy Catrina’s Candles and More officially launched.
Each candle is handmade by Yereny using a soy wax blend and carefully selected fragrances. She prioritizes clean-burning materials and uses essential oils and industry-approved scents whenever possible.
One of her current customer favorites is Enchanted Apple, a sweet and refreshing blend of apple, champagne, and honey. It’s the kind of scent that instantly fills a room and leaves a lasting impression.
Sustainability is an important part of Yereny’s process. Her candles are poured into glass jars with lids, designed to be reused long after the candle is gone. Customers often repurpose them for storage, organization, or décor, giving each jar a second life.
This eco-conscious approach reflects Yereny’s belief that small choices can make a meaningful impact.

As her brand grew, so did her product line. Customer requests inspired Yereny to expand beyond candles into complementary handmade goods.
Today, Soy Catrina’s Candles and More also offers:
The “and more” in her business name truly reflects her vision: a growing collection of thoughtful, handmade products designed for everyday life.
Yereny actively participates in local markets across Southern California, including events in Fullerton and the greater Los Angeles area. These in-person experiences allow customers to meet the maker, smell the products, and connect with the brand on a personal level.
As her website continues to grow, Yereny also plans to ship her products beyond the local area—bringing Soy Catrina’s creations into homes across the country.
For Yereny, scent is powerful. She’s seen firsthand how a candle can unlock memories and emotions. Customers often share stories of how a particular fragrance reminds them of a loved one, a place, or a special moment in time.
That emotional connection is at the heart of her business. Her goal is for each product to bring warmth, nostalgia, and joy—turning everyday spaces into meaningful experiences.
In addition to running her business, Yereny works full-time in payroll and human resources. Her dedication, work ethic, and love for people shine through in everything she does.
She hopes her journey inspires others—especially women—to pursue their ideas, embrace their creativity, and believe that hard work can turn passion into something real.
Yereny’s vision is simple but powerful: to create products that people genuinely love and to become a trusted part of their homes and routines. With a growing customer base, strong community presence, and a clear sense of purpose, Soy Catrina’s Candles and More is just getting started.
