For the past 10 years, Nigel Poag and his quality team of professionals, All Star roofer have been telling the truth about the rest of the roofing industry in Windsor Essex.
All Star Roofing handles both residential and commercial roofs. Unlike most roofing contractors, All Star is actually transparent. They actually tell customers the truth about what their roofing jobs cost. Nigel is on a mission to end what he calls “The Roofing Frauds” from the industry. “All too often, he has to tear off a roof that was done a few years ago because of shoddy installation tactics. The only way to fix it is to tear it off and do it right, with a warranty,” he says. “We tell the truth because it’s the right thing to do. We tell the truth because I want to set a good example for my son. I bring my 10-year-old son Ace to work with me, so he learns what it’s like to be in a helping profession,” says Nigel.
“I will tell my client the truth about how much a roof costs because I know they will appreciate and care about the quality of the materials that are put on their roof, and they will care about the professionalism with which their job is done. I take pride in my last name, pride in myself, and pride in my team. That’s why we are the only professional non-smoking roofing contractor in the city.”
His teams show up on time, explain exactly, what is happening to the customers, and clean up every day when their work is done.
Poag doesn’t just talk the talk, he also makes giving back a big part of his business. He and his team were featured in www.WindsorStar.com for donating a roof to local resident and widow, Mary Ann Gough. When Nigel heard that Ms. Gough was having trouble affording both funeral costs for her late husband and was in desperate need of a roof repair (with buckets all over the house to catch the leaking water), he stepped in.
As reported in Windsor Star, ‘After hearing about Mary Ann’s difficult situation, friends, family, and acquaintances have mobilized to hold a fundraiser to pay off the funeral costs and a local company, All Star Roofing has promised to repair and replace her roof at no cost.
“It’s overwhelming,” said Mary Ann. “He’s touched a lot of people over the years, and he is a very good person.”
The roofing company will begin by stopping the water dripping through her light socket in the ceiling, and then a new roof will be installed before the winter, said Nigel Poag, the owner of All Star Roofing.
“When I found out that she’s at home and there are actual buckets on the floor catching the water, I would feel embarrassed if I didn’t do something about it, ” said Poag, whose son’s mother received coaching from Mary Ann’s late husband on how to play pool.
Roof replacement in the Forest Glade neighborhood where Mary Ann lives can cost $5,500 to $6,700, said Poag. The amount would have been overwhelming for Mary Ann when coupled with funeral costs of $11,000.’
Nigel is what we like to call a local business hero, a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to his community. High standards of professionalism and a strong work ethic of small business owners like Nigel are the infrastructures of the Windsor Essex economy.
All Star’s most unusual job over the last 10 years was fixing the roof of a retirement home. Why was it unusual? Because of the responses of the elderly residents. “It was like it was the most exciting thing that happened to them in a long time, seeing men working on the roof. You would’ve thought I was Santa Claus with how happy they were.”
This kind of professionalism runs throughout the All Star roofing crew. “Service manager and foreman, James Jenkins has so much integrity. I would trust him with my roof and my reputation. He is a gentleman and a sweetheart of a man.”
“When I take my 10-year-old son, Ace, with me to work, you would see him running up to the front door of our clients, look them in the eye, introduce himself, and shake their hands. I believe that a year of door-to-door communication is equal to five years at university. He’s getting the kind of real-life education that you can’t get anywhere else that I hope will set him up for life.”
We couldn’t agree more. Nigel Poag is truly a local hero. Visit: www.windsor-roofing.ca
