Barbara Wants You to Enter the Enigma!

By Del Cromartie on December 17, 2022

Since August 2018, Barbara and her team have offered Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas a unique fun family experience. Barbara is the owner of Enter the Enigma and offers her guests five different themed escape rooms.

An escape room, also known as an escape game, is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints and strategy to complete the objective. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations and are meant to test your mind, how you think and your teamwork and communication skills.

I asked Barbara what makes Enter the Enigma different. She replied, “We really have a personal touch with all our clientele. Our customers have told us that the reason they keep coming back,, or they tell other people about us, is because we are family-friendly. We treat everyone like they’re family when they come in. We don’t just throw you in a room, get you out, take your picture and tell you goodbye.

We take the time to talk to our customers and get to know them. They are curious and want to know how things work and we love to share everything with them. Even when you read our reviews, you’ll find that most of the feedback is about how personable and friendly we are. It’s all about the customer service that we’re providing. We offer an entertainment service that tests your mind and critical thinking skills. We provide a great team-building exercise for families, friends and co-workers.”

Barbara is what we like to call a local biz hero, a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to her community. She pursued her passion and developed a team to bring her vision to life. High standards of professionalism and strong work ethics of small business owners like Barbara are the infrastructures of the Colorado Springs economy.

Supporting the community is important to the entire team. Enter the Enigma has supported the Doherty High School athletic program for the past two years. Barbara has donated team-building packages to the local Boy Scouts silent auction. Enter the Enigma has also donated to Care and Share and the USO. Enter the Enigma is a veteran-owned business and is passionate about giving back to the military community.

We sat down with Barbara for a quick interview

What’s the best thing you like about Colorado Springs?

“I really love the scenery, mountains and fall weather.”

Do you have any hobbies?

“I like gardening, baking, woodworking and all kinds of arts and crafts.”

Why did you get into this business?

“We started out by doing some escape rooms and really enjoyed it, that’s what got it started. We were looking to start a family business for some time and wanted to pursue something that was fulfilling. We considered starting a party store and we began creating an escape room.

Some of the first rooms we created were not great. They were basically a table and some chairs in the room. I realized that I could come up with some intricate stories and improve the designs, so we could pivot from doing the party store and have an entertainment center.”

If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing an escape room, what would it be?

“Always look at the difficulty level. I’m always sad when people come in after booking our hardest room and they’ve never done an escape room before. When they were done, they express how hard it was not realizing that they booked our most difficult room. I typically don’t say anything because they are the ones who booked the room, so I assume they know what they signed up for.

The first room we ever did, I booked because it said it was hard and I wanted to be challenged. So keep that in mind. The rooms we offer range from easy, medium and hard.”

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

“We’ll like to thank the local community for their continued support.”
