In the heart of Sonoma, California, Alicia Pursell-Hunt is making a profound difference in her community through her paramedical tattooing business, Med-Ink. As the owner and CEO, Alicia combines her artistic talents, passion for helping others, and commitment to innovation to provide life-changing services for her clients.
Alicia’s journey into the field of paramedical tattooing is as inspiring as the work she does. Born and raised in Glen Ellen, a quaint village in Sonoma County, Alicia is a fifth-generation resident deeply connected to her community. After spending 16 years in the automotive industry, she decided to pursue a career that would allow her to express her creativity while also making a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
“I realized during COVID that I needed something more fulfilling,” Alicia shared. “I missed the human connection, the physical touch, and the sense of helping others. I also wanted to reconnect with my artistic side, which had been put on hold for years.”
This realization led Alicia to explore paramedical tattooing, a specialized field that combines art and science to help individuals regain confidence in their appearance. Med-Ink offers a range of services, including scar camouflage, stretch mark treatments, scalp micropigmentation for hair density, and coming soon, areola restoration for cancer survivors and individuals who have undergone gender-affirming surgeries.
Alicia’s dedication to her craft is evident in her approach. With nearly a dozen certifications in scars, stretch marks, and scalp treatments, she continuously seeks to expand her knowledge and skills. Her ultimate goal is to provide customized solutions for each individual client, ensuring they leave her studio feeling empowered and confident.
“My passion is helping people who are struggling with something on their skin or scalp,” Alicia explained. “Whether it’s a scar that makes them self-conscious or stretch marks that prevent them from wearing certain clothing, I want to help them feel comfortable in their own skin again.”
Alicia’s work goes beyond aesthetics. She views her services as a way to restore dignity and confidence to individuals who have faced physical and emotional challenges. Her compassion and dedication have not gone unnoticed. During her recent open house, the Sonoma Chamber of Commerce celebrated her with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the First District Supervisor presented her with a certificate of congratulations.
Despite the challenges of starting her own business, Alicia has built a studio that reflects her vision. Unlike traditional tattoo parlors, Med-Ink offers a clean, welcoming environment that feels more like a medical office. The studio also features historical photos from the local community, showcasing Alicia’s love for Sonoma and its rich heritage.
Alicia’s commitment to giving back extends beyond her clients. She actively participates in the local Chamber of Commerce and collaborates with organizations like the Sonoma Cancer Support Group to reach individuals in need of her services. She is also working to make her services accessible through insurance and partnerships with foundations like the Tata Foundation, which helps fund treatments for clients who may not otherwise afford them.
Looking ahead, Alicia has big plans for Med-Ink. She hopes to expand to multiple locations, train others in her techniques, and continue raising awareness about the transformative power of paramedical tattooing. “This industry is growing quickly, and I want to be at the forefront,” she said. “My goal is to build a brand that people trust and admire, both locally and internationally.”
When she’s not in the studio, Alicia enjoys spending time with her two sons and her husband. She’s also a passionate beekeeper, a hobby that reflects her love for nature and her nurturing spirit.
Alicia Pursell-Hunt is more than a business owner; she’s a local hero dedicated to helping others heal, both inside and out. Her work at Med-Ink is a testament to the power of compassion, creativity, and resilience.
