In the world of custom woodworking, few stories are as inspiring as that of Fadi Taireh, the skilled craftsman behind Fadi’s Phat Wood. After an unexpected career shift from manufacturing engineering, Fadi has built a thriving woodworking and furniture refinishing business in Long Beach, California. This journey, marked by creativity, community connection, and family support, reveals a dedication to his customers and neighbors as well as his craft.
From Engineer to Artisan: Fadi’s Background and Business Beginnings
Fadi’s journey into woodworking began in 2019 when his wife, Liz, asked him to build vegetable garden beds. This project sparked a passion that led him to refine his skills, experiment with designs, and launch Fadi’s Phat Wood in September 2022. Encouraged by his wife and friends Bill Kessler and Sean Meusch, he has operated as a one-man business, taking custom requests and transforming various furniture pieces to give them new life.
Today, Fadi specializes in refinishing furniture—breathing fresh style and durability into chairs, tables, dressers, and other home decor. His commitment to craftsmanship has helped him develop a strong local reputation, and his ability to produce high-quality work at affordable prices (typically between $200 and $400 per project) has only added to his popularity.
Services and Craftsmanship at Fadi’s Phat Wood
In addition to furniture refinishing, Fadi also creates custom wood projects like puzzle tables, chessboards, benches, and more. His attention to detail and creative designs resonate with customers looking for unique wood pieces. One of his largest and most challenging projects so far was refinishing an 8-drawer dresser, which he completed with dedication and care for around $350.
Each project is an opportunity for Fadi to bring out the natural beauty of wood, creating pieces that he and his clients are proud of. Focusing on quality materials and skilled craftsmanship, he has earned a steady flow of word-of-mouth referrals and positive feedback on his Etsy store.
Community Engagement
Beyond his business, Fadi is actively involved in his community and his children’s school, where he hopes to teach basic woodworking skills. This vision reflects his desire to share his craft with the next generation, adding value to his local community beyond his business.
What’s Next for Fadi’s Phat Wood
Fadi’s future plans include refining his online presence, reaching more customers through a Google Business Profile and website, and potentially expanding his community involvement through teaching. As he works toward these goals, Fadi remains committed to delivering high-quality, custom woodwork that brings joy to his clients and community.
