Andrew Osendorf

For the past 2 years, Andrew Osendorf and his Mile High Grass Cuts team of “Seriously Great Landscapers and Lawn Care Specialists” have been doing landscaping and lawn care in the Denver suburbs of Englewood, Lakewood, Edgewater, and West Denver.

“What makes us different is that we pride ourselves in being good communicators. I’ll show up when I have told you I am going to show up and if I cannot show up for any reason, such as bad weather, etc., I’ll send you an email to let you know. My customers can always reach out to me and ask me any question or give me a call or shoot me an email and I will always respond to them.

Customer satisfaction is probably the most critical part of the business. I want to be known as somebody who delivers quality work, who’s trustworthy and reliable, and doing what we say we’re going to do. It’s getting the job done right.

Having integrity is a very precious commodity to us. For instance, if a customer wants an aeration service twice a year, I will not see dollar signs and agree. I will be open and honest with my customer and tell them that aerating once a year is enough and that fall is usually preferred.

In the end, I deliver a professional service and I want my customers to succeed in what they want to look good and want them to be absolutely satisfied with the service they pay for.

To help us deliver consistent results, I bought a standing commercial lawnmower, a SCAG, that is very nimble and quick, ideally suited for all the small gates in this area.”

The Mile High Grass Cuts team’s unique approach has also earned them rave reviews from their clients as can be seen from some of the reviews below.

“Andrew is stellar, exactly what we needed. He is consistent, quick, and very thorough and he treats our lawn fantastically and is very reasonably priced! Highly recommend, totally worth it.” – Andelyn

“It was a pleasure to work with Andrew at Mile High Grass Cuts. He was super responsive, reasonably priced, and very professional and flexible to work with. We will definitely be using his services again in the future!” – Juliet

“I highly recommend Mile High Grass Cuts! Andrew is great to work with and always was prompt and courteous with my mowing/lawn care. The yard always looked great after he was done. Really appreciate it, Andrew!” – Frank

Andrew is the owner of the Mile High Grass Cuts. Although he was born in Minnesota, he moved to Denver in spring 2019 and never looked back. He is a raving hockey and football fan and cheered for the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche teams this season but unfortunately, they didn’t do so well in the playoffs.

Andrew Osendorf

Andrew is what we like to call a Local Biz Hero, a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to his community. High standards of professionalism and the strong work ethics of small business owners like Andrew are the foundation of the Denver economy.

We sat down with Andrew for a quick interview –

Q: Why do you do what you do?

A: “When I was younger, I was out on the riding tractor helping my parents with their lawn which was a fair ¾ of an acre in size. There were a few neighbors that I also helped on occasion. That was my first entry into the lawn care business.

My first job in high school was at a golf course. Apart from my own business right now, that was my favorite job. I would go in in the morning and all the things that I needed to complete were written on the whiteboard. I would put on my headphones to listen to music and go complete my tasks. Those were some of the happiest moments in my younger days.

Caring for a lawn and garden is my life’s work, it is my name, my signature. Having someone complimenting me and appreciating how a garden looks is the best feeling ever. There is no hiding in caring for a garden, it is there for everyone to see.

To be out in nature is where I am energized and my happiest. It is the best thing to get up every day and do what you love most.”

Q: How did you get into this profession?

A: “After my endeavors into lawn care during my high school years, I worked at a golf course during summer while attending the North Dakota State University. I loved it and it was just like old times.

Ultimately, I got a job at Food Services of America. I thought it was a good direction to get some business experience but learned very quickly that I didn’t want to sit behind a desk staring at a computer all day.

After college, I had high hopes and expectations. I moved back home to Minnesota and find a job in warehousing. I was moving around quite a bit and working hands-on but became disillusioned with the corporate environment. I just felt my business degree meant nothing and I was not appreciated for the hard work I have put in.

That was when I decided that I needed a big change and do something different. It was the best decision ever when I decided to move to Denver in late March 2019. I had no idea I wanted to start a lawn care business, but when I got the job at the lawn care company, it just clicked. A short while later I started the landscaping and lawn care business.  One of my biggest values is client satisfaction and I realized that I will go far if I get client satisfaction right.

Just being out in nature and being my own boss brought joy back into my life. It is one of my favorite things just being my own boss, I am in charge, controlling my own schedule, and not having to please a boss. Every day is not all sunshine and rainbows, but I am happy.”

Q: If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a landscaper, what would it be?

A: “When you meet someone for landscaping, lawn care, or garden maintenance for the first time, you must get the feeling that they are actually listening to you. The service provider does come with plenty of experience and ideas but you must get a sense of a collaboration process rather than just having an interaction.

During this interaction ask as many questions as you can to test the service provider’s knowledge and experience in the areas that you are interested in such as, ways to control weeds, when is the best time to aerate the lawn and overseed, what are the best shrubs to plant in the various areas of the garden, how to maintain plants and give them moister, what is the best watering process to get the best results, and how can they make the lawn look better and thicker. Basically, explaining what they going to do, how they are going to do it and why is it the best to do it.

Follow your gut during this process to ascertain whether the conversation instills trust in the service provider or not. If you don’t have a feeling of trust, then walk away. “

Q: What do you love about your community/city?

A: “Some of my high school buddies and I took a trip out here some time back and I fell in love with the mountains, nature, and climate. It was perfect for me.

I love craft beer and the craft beer brewery scene is pretty good out here too.

These days I just love going into nature to camp, hike, and taking my dog out. There is a lot of nature here, definitely spoiled for choice.

People around here have the same love and respect for the mountains. People here are friendly and helpful.”
