For Bakhtiar “Bak” Mohammed, numbers have always been a natural language. As a high school science teacher for 13 years, he spent his days helping students understand complex concepts in physics and chemistry. But it was his own comfort with data and his desire to build something meaningful for his family’s future that led him to launch MB Books, a bookkeeping service that’s making waves in Austin’s business community and beyond.

Today, Bak combines his analytical mindset with a genuine passion for helping business owners gain clarity and control over their finances. His journey from the classroom to entrepreneurship reflects a commitment to service, continuous learning, and the belief that every business deserves expert financial guidance, regardless of size or industry.
When Bak decided to start his own business, he knew he wanted to leverage his strengths while keeping overhead costs manageable. “I was always good with numbers,” Bak explains. “As a science teacher, working with data and calculations was second nature to me.”
The name MB Books reflects both practicality and personal identity. The “MB” represents Bak’s initials, while “Books” clearly communicates the company’s focus on bookkeeping. The simplicity was intentional. “I wanted something easy to say and easy to type as a website,” Bak notes. In today’s digital world, that clarity matters.
Now in its second year of operation, MB Books offers comprehensive bookkeeping services to businesses throughout the United States. As a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor, Bak holds all four basic certifications from QuickBooks, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to professional excellence. This certification allows him to serve clients in any of the 50 states, bringing financial clarity to businesses from coast to coast.
MB Books provides a full range of bookkeeping services tailored to each client’s unique needs. From monthly bookkeeping and year-end finalization to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll management, Bak handles the financial details that keep businesses running smoothly.

“Every service can be added or subtracted depending on the company and what they need,” Bak explains. His flexible approach means businesses only pay for the services they actually require. While he doesn’t handle tax preparation, Bak’s comprehensive bookkeeping ensures that when tax time arrives, everything is organized and ready for a tax professional.
Operating from his home office in Austin, Texas, Bak has built a modern, technology-driven practice that serves clients primarily in the local area while maintaining the capability to work with businesses nationwide. The QuickBooks Online platform he uses allows for seamless collaboration regardless of location, giving clients real-time access to their financial information.
In a competitive field, Bak has found ways to distinguish his services through a combination of versatility and support. “I can cater to any business,” he says confidently, and that’s not an empty promise. From startups to established companies, from gyms to retail operations, Bak brings adaptability to every engagement.
One of his most valuable assets is his membership in a professional mentorship group comprising experienced CPAs and bookkeepers. This network provides a safety net that benefits his clients directly. “If I have any question that I cannot answer or a problem that comes up, I can always reach out to them,” Bak explains. “It’s not like I dive into a new industry and see something that I don’t understand or have not done before. I have that backing, so that gives me a pretty good background to work with anyone.”
This combination of personal expertise and professional support gives clients confidence that their financial records are in capable hands, no matter what industry challenges arise.
Bak’s background in education influences his approach to client relationships. Just as he spent years helping students grasp difficult scientific concepts, he now helps business owners understand their financial picture. His tagline says it all: “Simplifying your numbers, amplifying your success.”
As a veteran of the Texas State Guard, Bak brings a sense of discipline and service to his work. He also extends special consideration to fellow veterans who become clients, honoring their service through discounted rates. It’s one way he gives back to the military community that shaped his own values.
Pricing at MB Books is individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. Bak evaluates each company’s size, complexity, and specific needs to create a fair pricing structure. This personalized approach ensures businesses aren’t paying for services they don’t need while getting exactly the support that will help them thrive.
Bak’s path to Austin began 13 years ago when he moved to Texas for a teaching position. Originally from India and raised in San Diego, California, he found his home in the Texas capital four years ago and hasn’t looked back.
“I like how it’s growing,” Bak says about Austin. “It’s liberal. People are more accepting. And it always brings a new variety of people.” The city’s reputation as a tech hub has attracted companies from Silicon Valley and beyond, creating a vibrant business environment that’s perfect for an entrepreneurial bookkeeper.
When he’s not crunching numbers or helping clients, Bak pursues creative hobbies that provide balance to his analytical work. He picked up crocheting during COVID when working from home required a new outlet. “I needed a new hobby or something to do because everything got stopped,” he recalls. Today, crocheting remains a favorite pastime, along with artwork that lets him express a different side of his creativity.
While he’s not a die-hard fan of traditional American sports, Bak follows soccer and cricket, connecting to his international background while living in the heart of Texas.
Bak’s goals for MB Books are ambitious yet grounded. In five years, he envisions a self-sufficient business that allows him to transition fully from teaching into bookkeeping. Beyond personal success, he dreams of expansion. “If it grows further, I want to hire more people and expand the company and start hiring employees to grow the company,” he shares.
This vision reflects his understanding that sustainable growth requires building a team. The same collaborative spirit that led him to join a professional mentorship group will guide his approach to building a larger organization.
Currently, Bak is actively building his presence through strategic marketing. His website at mbbooks.org serves as a hub for information about his services, while his social media presence on Facebook (MB Books) and Instagram (@mb.books.bookkeeping) helps connect with potential clients and showcase his expertise.
What drives Bak Mohammed isn’t just professional ambition. Like many entrepreneurs, he started MB Books with a deeper purpose: to create financial security and resources for his family’s future. As a father, Bak is deeply committed to building a business that can provide long-term stability for his son and family. That personal motivation infuses everything he does with meaning and urgency.
His transition from teaching to entrepreneurship represents more than a career change. After 13 years in education, Bak recognized that while teaching was rewarding, the limited salary growth in the field made it challenging to achieve his family’s financial goals. The realization prompted him to think differently about his future and consider paths that could offer greater financial flexibility and growth potential.
Starting a bookkeeping business made perfect sense. It required minimal upfront capital, something crucial for a teacher looking to launch a venture. His natural aptitude for numbers, honed through years of teaching science, provided the foundation. The certifications were achievable, and the business model was scalable. Most importantly, it offered the potential to build something that could support his family for generations to come.
The entrepreneurial journey hasn’t been easy. Balancing a full-time teaching position while building MB Books requires dedication and careful time management. But Bak’s commitment to his family’s future keeps him motivated. Every client he serves, every financial record he organizes, and every business relationship he nurtures brings him closer to his goal of making MB Books his primary focus and creating the financial foundation his family needs.
With his QuickBooks certifications, professional network, 13 years of teaching experience, and growing track record in bookkeeping, Bak brings a unique combination of skills to every client engagement. His recent work with diverse businesses, including helping a new gym owner set up financial systems, demonstrates his ability to adapt to different industries and business models.
Whether you’re a startup founder trying to establish proper financial practices, an established business looking to streamline your bookkeeping, or anywhere in between, MB Books offers the expertise and personalized service that can make a real difference in your business operations.
Running a business is complex enough without worrying about whether your books are accurate and up-to-date. With MB Books, you get more than just a bookkeeper. You get a partner who understands numbers, values precision, and genuinely cares about your success.
