Have you ever had an image in your mind, one that you would like on birthday or wedding invitations, or on a business card? Just can’t seem to get it on to paper, no matter how hard you try? That’s when you might need to call in some help. Edana Haines is just that kind of help! Her company, Mustardstripe LLC, specializes in graphic design and branding. She and her husband, Ian, have been in business for 6 years, beginning in Minneapolis, now located in Long Beach, California. The work they do is easily remote, however, so anyone worldwide is a potential client.

I asked Edana what sets Mustardstripe LLC apart from the competition. She stated, “what I do is completely custom. I take the time to listen and get to know my client before I get to work”. I followed up with what made her choose this line of work. Her reply was, “When we were in Minneapolis, I was busy wedding planning and enjoyed designing the invitations and paper goods for our big day. Once wedding planning was over, I really missed it and wasn’t sure how to fill that void. After a few people reached out to ask me where I got our invitations (because they wanted something personal like ours), I realized I could continue designing paper goods for others and, as a bonus, make a little extra income while doing it.”

Mustardstripe LLC is just Edana and Ian. Edana’s background is in fashion design and product development. She’s client facing and the designer behind all projects and requests. Ian’s background is in marketing, and although he helps with all the “back end tech stuff,” he’s also Edana’s go-to marketing expert.

I asked what she felt would be a good tip for anyone looking for a graphic or branding designer and her response was, “find someone you can enjoy working with, not just some random person. There is so much communication involved and a lot of back and forth. Not to mention you want someone who can see your vision as clearly as you can.”

I wanted to get to know a little more about Edana as a person, so I asked her some questions about her and her background. I found that she’s originally from Ohio, spent 8 years in Minneapolis, and has been in Long Beach for about 5 months. The most significant things that have occurred to her have been getting married, moving out of state, making her own path in life and not staying put in one place. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, cooking and hiking. I also asked her what she liked best about Long Beach. She replied by saying “The weather and the tight knit community – it immediately felt like home.”

Edana made sure to point out that “you don’t have to be a big client. No project is too small for us!” If you are considering hiring a graphic designer, give Mustardstripe LLC a call to get your idea onto paper.
