While a bit extreme, that experience paid off as she won the supercuts competition at Aladdin Beauty Colleges Inc. which caught the attention of the man who would become her mentor, Alan Stone.
Shama went on to attend Blade Craft Barber Academy as well. It was there that she met Lilly Benitez and Kathia Santana, owner and instructor respectively. Shama said of them, “I really connected; both were essential to starting this business.” After years of hard work and dedication, she finally opened The Southern Gent, fulfilling her lifelong dream of creating a barber shop that embodies elegance, sophistication, and exceptional service.
