Music has the power to elevate any event, but few understand that better than Shantelle Barton, known professionally as Telly Slim. From humble beginnings to creating unforgettable wedding experiences in Seattle, her journey is one of passion, resilience, and vision.
Telly Slim isn’t your average DJ. She’s a seasoned vocalist, a former event planner, and a passionate performer with over a decade of experience in music. Based just outside Seattle in Everett, Washington, she launched her business, Telly Slim Entertainment, in early 2024 after years of honing her craft through performance, planning, and DJing for others.
Her career began as a musician, creating a fusion of modern blues, R&B, and hip-hop. Her artistic name gained local traction with her heartfelt track “Blue,” written during a difficult period in her life when she was facing homelessness and her mother was battling breast cancer. That song opened doors and introduced her to a supportive local network that would eventually lead to the launch of her business.
After nearly five years of DJing professionally under an agency, Telly decided to build something of her own. With her signature tagline “Unforgettable Music Experiences,” her new company offers elevated wedding DJ services designed to keep guests dancing while relieving pressure from the couple.
What sets Telly apart is her multi-faceted experience. She brings not just technical DJing skills, but also live performance instincts and coordination know-how. Clients don’t just get a DJ—they get someone who can manage timelines, communicate with photographers, and keep the energy flowing without missing a beat.
Telly runs her business solo for now, managing every detail from bookings to sound setup. She does, however, work with trusted contractors for larger events. Her current focus is on weddings, but she’s available for corporate parties and other special events across Seattle and the surrounding region.
She balances this growing venture with two other jobs and being a mother—proving that hustle and heart go hand-in-hand.
Seattle is a city rich with creativity, and couples looking for a DJ who truly “gets it” are turning to Telly Slim. She understands the stress of wedding planning and strives to make music one less thing for clients to worry about.
“I’m not just playing music. I’m coordinating moments, creating memories, and holding space for love,” she says.
Telly has big plans for 2025. She’s working on separating her musician brand from her entertainment business to make the client experience more seamless. She’s also laying the groundwork for a stronger online presence, including a new Facebook business page and a Google Business Profile to gather client reviews.
She’s focused on organic growth through word of mouth, Google ads, and community connections—building on the reputation she’s earned through genuine service.
Whether it’s helping a couple glide into their first dance or making sure the cake cutting runs on time, Telly Slim is more than a DJ—she’s a conductor of moments. With her background, dedication, and undeniable talent, she’s quickly becoming one of Seattle’s most promising wedding entertainers.
