We sat down with Benn for a quick interview –

Q: Why do you do what you do? 

A: “When I was younger and recovering from an injury, I had a really good patient experience, so decided that this the profession I wanted to be in and went on to study to become a podiatrist.  I’m passionate about raising the standard of care for people suffering from plantar fasciitis and other foot conditions.

I take great pride in keeping up to date with the latest research and treatment developments and have continued studying and have gained qualifications in Accredited Injection Therapy Training with The College of Podiatry, a Podiatric Surgery MSc Degree, and a Master’s degree in Podiatric Surgery.”

 Q: How did you get into this profession? 

A: “After graduating from the University of Southampton in 2010 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Podiatry my first job as a podiatrist was working for the NHS in Greenwich in 2010.

In 2015 I joined Hatt Health & Movement Clinic, as Podiatry Head of Service.  Responsible for running the podiatry department, with a focus on developing gold standard treatment pathways for a wide variety of foot & ankle conditions I also mentored other podiatrists within the team.  I left this role in 2020 to launch The Heel Pain Expert clinic.”

Q: Being a Podiatrist Benn works directly with many people, we asked him what’s the most unusual situation that ever happened to him on the job? 

A: “It’s not very common, but I would say discovering patients wearing medical insoles the wrong way around, which can make the condition worse.”

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: “I love to spend time with my fiancée, Elena, and exploring historical Georgian Architecture in Bath. I also like to keep fit and regularly cycle, go for nice runs or visit the gym for weight training.  I’m also an author (The Plantar Fasciitis Bible) which is aimed at educating health professionals and heel pain sufferers on the causes of plantar fasciitis and options on how to treat it.”

Q: If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a Podiatrist, what would it be?

“Regular stretching of your calf muscles.  A tight calf muscle is one of the main causes of lower limb pain. “

Following a couple of months of suffering from serious pain in my heel, I decided to finally do something about it.  Benn was recommended to me by a friend and from the first consultation, I was very confident that Benn would sort my problem out.

Benn diagnosed the problem (Achilles tendinopathy & Bursitis) at the first consultation after having an ultrasound scan and put a plan into action immediately.  After a month I am virtually pain-free and able to walk normally again.  Initial treatment was a steroid injection and wearing a boot for 3 weeks which helped immensely.
