For the past 16 years, Bert Briones of Red Hill Law Group and his result-oriented, compassionate, and qualified team of lawyers and paralegals have been actively protecting the financial interest of Southern California residents.
“What makes my law firm different is that we offer the competency of a larger firm with the personal touch of a smaller firm. I am certified by The State Bar of California as a Legal Specialist in Bankruptcy Law and am one of only twenty-five Legal Specialists in Bankruptcy who are located in Orange County.
My Team ensures that we are accessible to our clients throughout the day by making the process as seamless as possible to facilitate direct communication between our clients and me. Our goal is to make our clients feel protected and reduce their stress. Our core belief is that regardless of whether we provide bankruptcy or bankruptcy avoidance services, our main purpose is to provide our clients a sense of a transformational process instead of just a transactional process. The transformation leads to peace of
Bert, who is married with 7 children, is the owner of Red Hill Law Group, a resident of Orange County for the past 30 years, he’s also a big football fan and enjoys coaching young football athletes and helping them find the right colleges.
Bert is what we like to call a Local Biz Hero, a self-made entrepreneur who brings true value to his community. High standards of professionalism and the strong work ethics of small business owners like Bert are the infrastructures of Orange County, California’s economy.
Do not take it from me, just look at what some of his grateful clients say about his work:
1. “Bert Briones is a great bankruptcy attorney. He provided straightforward and accurate consultation and created a bankruptcy plan to get me out of debt in 60 months. Any time I had questions or needed more information he was available and could see me with short notice. He’s an expert in his field, and anyone who is in the unfortunate situation of needing to file bankruptcy would benefit from his guidance.”
2. “I was not referred to Red Hill Law Group and Bert Briones. I simply found him on an internet list of local bankruptcy attorneys. But, I lucked out. Bert is professional, friendly, and a wonderful representative during such a difficult time for me and my family. I couldn’t recommend him more.”
A portion of every dollar generated by the law firm goes back to supporting the local business ecosystem and the community as Red Hill Law Group supports the Orange County Rescue Mission, as well as doing long-term volunteer work in collaboration with a local church that regularly serves more than a hundred thousand meals a year. In addition to charitable and volunteer work, Bert is a founder of a non-profit that supports young athletes to get off the ground and excel in their life.
We sat down with Bert for a quick interview –
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: “In the beginning, we were focusing on writing trusts, but during the financial crisis we soon discovered a need for bankruptcy relief and bankruptcy avoidance for many small business owners because many small businesses in California were above their debt levels. My first bankruptcy case was a Chapter 13, not a Chapter 7 because it helps people safeguard their financial interests and, in this case, it was their home.
We have had many people inquire about bankruptcy but were reluctant to take the next step because they were afraid of losing their homes. Now with our expert guidance and proven track record they may now be able to protect their home instead of losing it.”
Q: How did you get into this profession?
A: “When I transitioned from the mortgage industry to the field of law, I began with a clear plan. My mission was to study the law so I could better assist others with their finances. I initially believed the knowledge I gained in the mortgage industry would be an asset to my estate planning clients, but I have actually found it to benefit my clients in many other areas, as well.
Today, my practice includes bankruptcy (Chapters 7, 11, and 13) and bankruptcy alternatives. I am certified by the State Bar of California as a Legal Specialist in Bankruptcy Law, but I continue to seek out opportunities to learn and grow in any way that I can. I believe in the power of using a collaborative approach to help my clients reach their goals, so when necessary, I work with other attorneys in order to facilitate the best possible outcomes for my clients.”
Q: Being an attorney and counselor at law, Bert works directly with many people, so we asked him what’s the most unusual situation that ever happened to him on the job:
A: “I once had a client turn to me when he was severely behind on his rent. After years of attempting to renegotiate his lease with no success, he acquiesced to filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. By the time he came to my office, he had already done his research and determined that bankruptcy was the most reasonable course of action for him to take. Yet after I reviewed his case, I presented a new alternative: what if I tried to renegotiate the lease on his behalf? My client didn’t believe it was possible, but I succeeded. Not only did this prevent my client from having to file bankruptcy — it actually saved him money, too. The retainer I requested for the lease renegotiation was only 10% of what I would’ve had to bill him for bankruptcy services.
What I want you to take away from this story is that there are often alternative methods of resolution, both in and out of the courtroom. I sometimes assist my clients with modifying their loans even when they haven’t been able to in years. I negotiate on my clients’ behalf. I do whatever I possibly can to help my clients achieve their goals in a manner that suits their needs, and there is nothing more satisfying than the immediate relief that washes over my clients when the stress disappears, and their lives return
Q: If you could share one tip with the readers for choosing a bankruptcy attorney, what would it be?
A: “You want an attorney with whom you can sit face-to-face, discuss your unique situation, and who ideally is a Legal Specialist in Bankruptcy. We want bankruptcy to be a transformational change for our clients and not just a transactional process. To facilitate that transformation, I work directly with my clients and through a strong partnership with my staff, we establish and maintain a professional relationship with our clients.”
